From examples I've seen online, brightfield has too-low contrast and phase contrast has large (diffraction?) halos that can look like noise.

Which microscope are you specifying here like say it is of Thermo Fisher or Perkin Elmer (With model number) ?
Because I personally have experience of 3-4 types of microscopes and HCS also so there's a huge difference in each microscope and the technique of microscopy as you have mentioned in the description.
