Why does nitro group(-NO2) have poor solubility in polar solvents?

Hi,

I want to know why nitro group and also sulfonate group have poor solubility in water and other polar solvents(DMSO, DMF, MeOH, etc.).

Actually I thought the reason is polarity but it doesn't make sense when compare to other compounds having high polarity.

Then, what is the factor which affects solubility?

This may be related to adhessive forces created. The Henry's constant for NO2 is much higher in organic solvents than in water.
