My lab is attempting to look at angiogenesis using an ex ovo CAM assay. When we first open our chicken eggs we can see the heart has a rapid heartbeat, no damage to the yolk, and no abnormalities of the blood vessels. However, after observing the embryo for a few hours, The heart beat went from rapid (about 3 or 4 beats per second, to incredibly slow (almost one heartbeat for every 2 seconds) and some will just stop beating. Is this normal because of the change in environment or are these embryos no longer viable and should be discarded?
