Hi guys,

I have an anode and I want to measure the passing current through this electrode when a certain electrochemical reaction takes place near the surface. I read about the 3 electrodes test and the role of RE but I just don't know why should we exert a potential between RE and WE (perturb the eq.) to measure the passing current while there is a potential difference (generated by our reaction) between WE and CE? Why don't we just use an Ampere-meter in series with the circuit and measure the passing current of our electrode?

Thanks in advance!
