Why do we add sucrose in the buffer used for aldehyde reductase extraction?

During aldehyde reductase extraction, the buffer we use contains sucrose, betamercaptoethanol and EDTA. why sucrose?

Sucrose is oligomer of reducing sugar - dextrose and it will check the OR potential of the buffer to ensure better activity of the enzyme.
