I am not a botanist or familiar with the botanical Code ( https://www.iapt-taxon.org/nomen/pages/intro/dates.html), but would like to establish which is the correct spelling of this species of oak found in western Cuba. The OD clearly spells it sagraeana ( https://archive.org/details/cihm_40072/page/n61/mode/2up), but modern Cuban authorities appear to spell it sagrana, while a brief internet search seems to throw up virtually equal numbers of both spellings (wikipedia, for example, spells it sagraeana). Any reason in the botanical Code why the original spelling has been abandoned in favour of sagrana. Thank you!

I would say if your audience is English speaking/reading use “Quercus sagraeana”.
If your audience is Spanish speaking/reading use “Quercus sagrana”.
Quercus sagrana is the correct spelling. It was named after Ramón de la Sagra.
Art. 60.8 c of the ICN states:
If the personal name ends with a vowel, adjectival epithets are formed by adding ‑an- plus the nominative singular inflection appropriate to the gender of the generic name (e.g. Cyperus heyne‑anus for Heyne, Vanda lindley‑ana for Lindley, Aspidium bertero‑anum for Bertero), except when the personal name ends with ‑a in which case ‑n- plus the appropriate inflection is added (e.g. balansa‑nus (m), balansa‑na (f), and balansa‑num (n) for Balansa).
