Only rarely sabotage at research institutions seem to appear in the media. In my experience the sabotaged scientist, e.g. postdoc, is sabotaged twice: first by the sabotaging colleague and then by the sabotage-tolerating or sabotage-supporting professors in the group, especially in Karlsruhe.
May be related to power, money, or shame- avoidance by the institution, or even a manner of staying away from legal prosecution.
There currently is an (ongoing) case in this weeks' science magazine, which made it into the media, but I guess it may not a general recommendation to sue the responsibles, since usually scientists are very poor and do not have the money to pay a lawer. And it is difficult for a poor, sabotaged scientist to stop in the sabotaging lab and pay for moving to another university lab. But who should punish the responsible sabotaging people if not the state attorney or the law.
