I've recently come across the colony of Geothrichum silvicola (based on sequencing result) isolated from soil with slimy morphology, unlike the colony morphology I've found on the journal below, which is moldy-like. Does anyone have experience with the difference morphology of yeast? and is there any chance the colony morphology of the yeast can change under certain circumstances?
I hope I have been able to convey what I want to ask.

My best guess is that it is contaminated with fungi-associated bacteria.

Could you give me more explanation about fungi-associated bacteria? it means the sequencing result was right however the fungi we isolated from soil is contaminated?
There are some bacteria that colonize the fungal mycelium and feed on the fungal exudates. Often those bacteria produce EPS to stick to the fungus. If you were targeting ITS in your sequencing, the bacteria might have been unnoticed. Try to amplify the bacterial 16S rRNA region or add chloramphenicol to the medium and see if the fungus is still slimy.

would like to share a few observation and suggestions:
During my work on G. canididum stress biology, it exhibited a slimy nature under metal stress conditions. This nature was found during the studies on solid and liquid culture conditions. It also found that the isolate was able to produce EPS.
check once with the culture conditions adapted during your isolation and maintenance of G. silvicola.
