I am modelling RC beam with Solid 65 and link 180 for concrete and reinforcement respectively. I have used Hognestad model for stress-strain relation in compression. I got converged and accurate solution until the first crack appeared but after that I could not get converged solution. When I increased load, I could not get converged solution. But when I do linear analysis only, I can get converged solution easily. What may be the probable reason behind this ?
probably because there is a too high force/stress concentration in the node of crack-end or, when the connection between nodes is missing (crack appearing), the duplication of nodes cannot be managed by the software. Have you tried with element elimination technique (I don't remember If Ansys can manage it) in order to simulate the crack?
