For binary phase diagrams, Liquidus is always above connecting straight line of m.p. of two pure components (hence convex upwards) and solidus is always below that line, and hence concave upwards. What is the thermodynamic limitation that forbids simulataneous elevation or simultaneous depression of both melting start and melting end point of mixture compared to rule-of-sum melting points? Please explain.
