I'm new to mammalian cell culture and have recently started using MCF-7 cells. I'm screening some compounds which may exhibit cytotoxicity to cells at a particular concentration. When I treated my cells with this compound, I got vacoule-like entities in my cells. Please advise what these structures could be. Any help will be appreciated. I'm attaching pictures of untreated cells and treated cells for reference. Thanks in advance.
Its quite interesting to see the distinct vacuole formation upon the treatment with X compound. I would suggest you to use any tracker or marker proteins. Vacuole formation is also a cellular defence mechanism where the misfolded or damaged proteins are degraded via either lysosomal or proteosmal pathway. Just a thought process!! Vacuolization some times is associated to cell death/cyototoxicity. I suggest you that use a marketing protein of autophagic cell death because this type of cell death is related with vacuolization process.
