Recently, I have had problems with western blotting where I get smears all across the lanes. I used to get clean bands at some point but now it is all smears. Is this due to insufficient washing times? I wash for 3 times for 5 minutes but maybe I am going to have to increase it.

I been having smears for multiple proteins from different molecular weight ranges: 21kDa to 131Kda, they all look the same. They are also accompanied with white bands.

I am sure that electrophoresis and transfer time are done well and the sames are completely new, they can't be degraded that fast.
