In the project, the characteristics of the effluents found in lab are pH=7.6, temp 32C ,oil & Grease 30 mg/L SS 650 mg/L
The BOD is 1200 and COD: BOD ratio is 1.15
The student need to go for treatment studies in the lab for Master's thesis.
What do you suggest to be the best treatment system?
Similar study was taken up few years back for my student's Master dissertation. This was guided by me. She was a ranker-Miss Manishita Das was my student. I can tell you how we had conducted treatment investigation for couple of months in Environmental Engineering lab.
You need to undertake flocculation using Alum and FeSO4. The flocculated effluent can be given prolonged bio aeration for 24 hrs to 48 hrs, followed by adsorption.
If the results are still not favorable, as BOD is 1200 mg/L you may go for anaerobic treatment followed by aerobic treatment.

I am not a chemical person , but certainly would say water soluble vs insoluble is the first step to go.
Process insoluble components before dumping the waste or if you are using it as landfills again bio-degradable materials are the things to be prepared .

After the preliminary treatment of the industrial waste from the factory is completed, it is necessary to add the polyelectrolyte or calcium oxide for the purpose of flocculation and sedimentation in special water tanks, followed by the biological treatment stage.
And sometimes anaerobic fermentation tanks are used before aeration tanks within biological treatment
