Technology has been closely associated with the evolution of civilization starting with tools, clothing, fire, shelter, natural resources conversion and various other things of basic survival. Technological developments from fire to food and wheel to the world-wide web have facilitated humankind and affected society and its surroundings in a number of ways. In many societies, technology has helped develop more advanced economies. Technology which is the offshoot of science has a huge impact on scientific research as it relies on the equipment. However, application of some technologies often raises ethical questions as many technological processes have turned out to be destructive owing to the development of nuclear weapons, environmental degradation, and natural resource depletion. Technological advances are generally accompanied by social transformation as a result of changes in economics, the way of working and lifestyle. In recent years, information technology has had a profound positive impact on day-to-day human life at the same time it has raised the issue of values of human society as well. The question, therefore, is "which technologies in your opinion, will influence and shape the science and society at the most in near future?"
Thank you for invitation. Predictions (especially a near-term predictions) is a very complicated and controversial matter. In my opinion the most important discoveries – changing the humans life will be in Genetic Engineering (in particular – plant engineering), Anthropological Genetics and Medical Technologies. BUT all we know that almost all the scientific discoveries are initiated, sponsored and funded by military. The military also get the fruits of most discoveries and how they will be used usually remains unknown. I am a skeptical person - it’s natural – since the life gives very few reasons not to be skeptical especially for those residing here in Russia.
"We wanted the best, but it turned out as always" - one of the most famous expressions of Viktor Chernomyrdin, who delivered it during his stay as Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation at a press conference, describing the preparation and implementation of some important reforms in Russia."
Interesting question, Yogesh!
I see here several dimensions: a) which technologies are mostly desirable to confront future challenges and to make life better, b) which technologies are most likely to emerge in market economy in the nearest future.
As for the 2nd dimension, we observe a explosive growth of information technologies that shape the contemporary stage of technological revolution. However, I predict some slow down here because too much is already done, although money will continue to flow here.
As for the first dimension, we have many problems today mostly related with worsening environment, non-sustainability of development and similar issues. We need fast transition to renewable energies, but there are also economic problems here to stimulate it. You can look at the works of my project: https://www.researchgate.net/project/Energy-Threats-of-the-21st-Century-Global-Warming-and-Fossil-Fuel-Scarcity
New technologies in the energy generation sector (not the same old ones that pollute).
Dear all:
I think that Internet of Things and smart cities will have a profound impact.
There may be some additional useful answers in this related question:
https://www.researchgate.net/post/In_your_opinion_what_are_the_innovations_in_your_field_that_will_impact_most_on_society_in_the_near_future
Thanks for the invitation, which shows that the "technic" of human sympathy and eagerness and curiosity is number one. But besides, i think that physics soon will lead to a new world like Röntgen when he discovered the x-rays. Opening this new door which is waiting for us will bring more qualitative levels than a quantitative better information/communication technology. And it will also bring metaphysics within reach.
In my previous answer I tried to guess the direction of new technological revolution. Choice between focus on energy solutions and digitization is important but not the only. To my opinion, we have growing scarcity of resources on the Earth, energy in particular. Here one should remember physics, of course. Before 2000 a lot of money was in it, especially in thermonuclear synthesis, but the expected result of unlimited cheap energy supply was not achieved, and the world turned to consume more fossil fuels, with all externalities behind that. At the same time, physics receives now much less money than before, and many of professionals turned to other work. So I do not expect breakthrough in physics, not because it is obsolete, but as a result of policy to finance science.
At the same time, biological research is growing fast, and we can have some breakthrough there. But will it all be for the benefits of humans (and animals)? Might it happen that new viruses causing epidemies will be invented earlier than tools to prolong human life and make it more healthy? It depends. In physics we also had an invention of mortal nuclear bomb, and not only machines to make our life easier. Caring about sustainability of global ecological systems is also important. But perhaps less pressure on them is better that "smart" manipulation.
My message is: today the policy to finance science will determine future inventions more than random ideas coming to brains of different modern Leonardo da Vinci. And given quite unequal distribution of capital, finance comes more not from the interests of majority of people, but from minority with big money. So our future depends very much on their morality. In other words, more honest social system is the cause of more beneficial technological progress for humans.
Since we will face more and more humans on this planet (and the extinction of more and more other species) I think eco-technology (management of the environment or "global gardening") will be necessary since we as a species are obviously unable to leave the existing ecology on earth functional. The big questions will be, do we know enough about the ecosystems to manage a kind of "global gardening"? In order have a "door out" as a species we may open settlings on the moon, mars or elsewhere in the solar system to test this. If we can develop a functional import-independent eco-system on the moon, this can be done anywhere and no matter what happens on earth there is a future for humankind.
Dear Yogesh,
Thanks for your thought provoking question and your invitation to me to reply. I am going to answer it from a slightly different perspective.
Traditions societies have always talked of the “subtle energy system” and I suggest in my thesis that it is new technologies which are making these invisible fields visible. I also point out the role of the heart in generating these fields.
I feel these new technologies are also allowing a paradigm shift in the nature of humans. We still look at ‘man’ as being primarily a biochemical entity but our capacity to see ‘man’ as also a bioelectrical entity is slowly increasing. The SQUID measures electromagnetic fields and this is being increasingly used these days. Other technologies which look at the electrical fields (the PIP - Polycontrast Interference Photography and the GVD or Gas Discharge Visualization Camera) around the body exist but have not yet found their way into the main stream medical profession. Like reading X-rays, these techniques require people specialised in the art of reading them.
Personally I do not feel that it is only a lack of specialised people who know how to use these technologies which is not facilitating their use, but the lack of a clear electrical model of ‘man’. At the moment there are many different views but I feel that sooner of later somebody will put forward a model that is accepted by most people.
Obviously pharmaceutical companies have a vested interest in maintaining a biochemical model, but the increasing number of patients who seek alternative treatment is growing (sorry I do not have data to back up this statement but I would appreciate if somebody can add information of this) and this includes the use of acupuncture and reike which is even being used in some hospitals in Spain.
So in resume, I feel these technologies have the potential to bring about a paradigm shift which will effect the health and well fare of all of us on this planet as well as bringing about a new understanding concerning traditional views regarding man’s spiritual (metaphysical) nature.
Warm regards - tina
To me these are the technologies that will re-shape science, and the way we deal with research, and will have a big societal impact: cloud computing, nano technology, in particular, nano robots (from medicine to construction) , new materials, virtual and augmented reality, space mining, Evernet. Learning and education will definitely change, work needs to be redefined, the concept of a (global) minimum wage needs to be addressed, and these technologies will have a big impact in all society, the way we live, the way we learn, and the way we pursuit happiness, which should be our goal :-)
There are theories that support the positive uses of technology such as the theory of social exchange We develop our relationships and develop on the basis of our relationship with others based on the returns and costs such as good treatment and fairness, respect and personal satisfaction of the return of the relationship, and also you can build a typical picture of a famous person without communicating directly with him information processing theory as you soon as you receive information from the other party, you adopt a stereotype of the person but relationships in the social networking needs a lot of time to see a good person, and you can find friends in social networking sites could be N is better than real friends and may benefit you in things when no one benefits you there and there is a theory called the strength of weak relations and says this circumstance that colleagues and not true friends are who help you more than friends because the human nature of looking for who is similar in qualities and objectives is the colleague His attributes are contrary qualities of a true friend, and could be the first reason for the development of the mind is Nutraceuticals note that it is now possible to take courses and certificates online through internationally recognized sites is possible for a child to learn languages through Altknulogia.oayda features of the same Nutraceuticals The status of some ignorance by observing all the information
Negatives The use of technology and social networking sites are many and are not limited to a specific category more than they are exclusively on those who use technology and social networking sites as there are children suffering from many psychological diseases including autism and violence and even the inability to face reality and shyness, young people just entering the technology in general it enters the stage of the so-called Bafilo any known float this stage that any person imperceptible what roam around the risks or events, including means to escape from reality and the preference of the virtual world because he does what he likes and there are also theories show damage technology, including theoretical The theory of the effect of false consensus is a belief in a person who calls it and circulates to all people and some people who see his opinion believe this is the correct event has become the technology is the means that may be a double-edged and Zbblk technology, social isolation and inability to face reality, and also one of the reasons that ago, some people become have a dulling sense is the spread of clips of violence through the means of social communication, as well as the entry of human rights in despair and frustration leads to a pedestrian Sections of violence and its effects and thrill out of what is in it

Dear Yogesh, thank you for such ínteresting question.
I wouldn't know how to predict the near future. But I do know what my strongest wishes and urges would be...
I hope for the development of better communication system with better anti-viral performance, to filter all the negative contents, and transform our Worldwide communication into a peaceful strongly positive constructive system. This would allow spreading Peace, Health and Development, in a better Positive World.
Stephen Hawking recently stated that " the increasing technologies, population, climate change and meteorite impact can change Earth as a planet of inhabitable condition and there is a need of another Planet/moon where human can survive within 100 years"
Which technologies will influence and shape the science and society at the most in near future?
I think one of the technologies that can do so is Big Data Analytics whereby it can process, analyze, transform, synthesize & predict various sorts of big data (historical batch or real time) into knowledge or insight that we never imagine before. Also with the proliferation of Internet of Things (IoT) or equivalent whereby almost all types of data can be sensed & streamed into Big Data Analytics for processing before sending back control signals to actuators attached to the IoT end points for better surrounding / environmental control. The abovementioned can speedily & effectively change the way we collect data points from society, identify research problem, perform literature review, conduct R&D / scientific research for further knowledge contribution back to society.
I would like to add one more technology related to energy: the production of fossil fuels from algae. This will definitely change society and the equilibrium between oil producers countries , and non-producer countries, if, and only if, the technology is open. Otherwise, there will be another monopoly. The biggest change in society will be when we return our attention to Sociology, Philosophy, History, and plan how - as a specie - we want to evolve in this planet is a sustainable way, in global cooperation, in pursuit of solutions to the biggest problems of our existence: survival with finite resources, and finding new resources (on Earth, or elsewhere). Technology will evolve, that is a fact, the point is, will there be someone to use it?
Technologies changing the future of food
Agricultural engineers and scientists are working hard to increase food production, create cleaner agricultural processes and develop greener packaging.
https://www.engadget.com/2016/07/02/six-technologies-changing-the-future-of-food/
I totally agree with Krishnan Umachandran. Agriculture remains the bed rock of societal development and sustainability. Agricultural technology will influence the future to high extent.
Thank you for the interesting question. My answer is quite definite. Information Technology. See, for example, the example of the "bestial civilization" in the article “Dozy-chaos end of the human civilization”, JUSPS-B Vol. 29(4), 87-96 (2017) (http://dx.doi.org/10.22147/jusps-B/290402).
Technology that will have a great impact in the world is technology a technology that has an impact in time and space is that of communication technology.
I think all fields of technology can have impact on the future in near future, nowadays there are a great revolution in the field of cellbiology which could offere many kind of treatment for many diseases.
kind regards
Dear YOGESH CHANDRA TRIPATHI,
Holography will be widely developed in the near future. It will affect everything, and, first of all, cinema, painting, media, Internet resources. With its help, you can design any room, for example, to form at home a "piece" of wood, lawn, field, ocean. To accommodate high-speed holographic objects, we need areas and volumes corresponding to their real dimensions, since they can only temporarily be encrusted into the overall dynamics of all objects of the surrounding reality.

''Which technologies will influence and shape the science and society at the most in near future?''
Technology is always presented as a way to free us , to ease our life and to entertain us. Remember the promess of a bright future that accompanied all the new technological advance and compare it with the reality 20 years later. IN many case, the dream became nightmare. Fredom from work means threat of unemployment. Cell phone with us means you are at work all the time . Small screen and computer in your hand means big brother is with you all the time. Fast computer network covering the planet means capital appropriationg of everything and house speculation is not local anymore. If there is an excess of capital somewhere in the world then they can create hyper speculation at any other places. This is global colonialism at lighting speed. So be worry of what technological development you are wishing for because this might be the new form slavery. So I wish a technological development that would reverse this trend. One that truly free us and not enslave us. The mean of slavery is money. You run after money and so the slave of those giving it to you. How could get some freedom from this mean of slavery, from money. A new form of social network promoting freedom from money. An old person having no money need some services. She express this on the network and some people volunteer to do it freely, to fullfill her need. A social network that would promote a way for us to serve each other , work for each other , without any money involve. This is what I see as really a liberating technology. WHat form should this social network have remain to be invented.

The Future of Science, Technology and Society
In discussing the future of science (including industrial science) and society, it is valuable to recount some of the important points that emerged from the previous discussion.
1. As a consequence of recognizing the economic benefits that derive from the development of novel, successful technologies, governments have been attempting to direct research, supported with public funds, toward subjects that are perceived as national priorities. This contrasts with broad-based "curiosity" oriented basic research.
2. The views of scientists, a distinguished economist, some industrial leaders and an editorial comment in a distinguished science journal provide very strong indications that governmental management of goal-oriented research is replete with uncertainties and pitfalls and, although well-motivated, may cause serious damage to the scientific culture. This, of course, would defeat the original purpose, since the co-evolution of science and society is a very-well documented and irrefutable phenomenon.
3. Strong arguments are presented in this article by individuals and groups that support the current system of governmental funding of a very broad range of scientific efforts as probably being as close to optimal with regard to national priorities as is possible. No one can predict with any certainty what the most successful inventions and technologies will be in the future. The economic return on federally supported funding was the subject of a report by the Council of Economic Advisors to President Clinton. This report was released in November 1995. It documents high returns to the economy and the importance of governmental involvement.
4. By any measure, basic scientific research has made monumental contributions to technology and national priorities. The bond between basic research and the development of both novel and current technologies has been and is well in place.".....

I presume that AI and it's applications would play a very important role. In addition Cognative Sciences should also assume greater significance in near future.
Thanks for sharing.
One can not single out a technology influencing and be shaping the science and society at the most in near future. This is a very general question. In communication engineering, one of the influencing technology would be in the optical domain.

Serious changes are happening now in the financial industry, which would have far reaching consequences. For instance, it is a card less access to ATM machines and/or Point-Of-Sale (POS) payment terminals. The presence of a physical card is not needed – it is either stored in the smartphone’s memory, or emulated from the cloud and can be read with either scanning or Near Field Communication (NFC) technologies, when the smartphone is in a close proximity of a POS or ATM terminals.
Usual authentication protocols utilizing static PINs or passwords are being replaced with either visual pattern QR code delivered to a smart phone or a terminal, smartphone and ATM location being monitored or discovered by back offices servers, one time password with an attached static PIN.
All these things are being combined with such mobile banking/payment applications (digital wallets) as GooglePay, AndroidPay, SumsungPay, AmazonPay, and alike, already providing in many places card less buying capabilities at POSs or money withdraws from ATMs.
All that are going to change the way people are buying, banking, and authenticating themselves. Eventually, it will proliferate into numerous other aspects of Identity and Access Management (IAM) field having connections and almost ubiquitous presence in humans' life.
Sir
What a wonderful issue in today's context. The technology, which will evolved by the common man and dealt by the scientist would be great. I hope the feathers of IT and communication is still to come. The technology which provide peace and calm environment to human will ultimately change the world. would it be in our life - May be a strong question!
Besides this producing huge food and water in a small area will be utmost importance. Technology has to be more pronounced in this respect.
A wild thought.

Technologies have embarked an exponential growth and new technologies have revolutionized our lifestyle in a way we could have imagined a few decades ago. New technologies have paved the way to devices with vast computing and communication power, new generation drugs and electronic implants. Further technological advances in the areas of artificial intelligence (AI), supercomputers & robotics, bioengineering, stem cells & bioprinting, genomics & gene therapy, vertical farming, and other cognitive technology are likely to rock the world in near future. Comparing the present era with that of a few centuries back, we notice the great advantages of modern technology that has fulfilled many promises and expected to offer many more for the future. However, the genuine positive impact of technology on human life and society will depend on our ability to think ethically and foresee potentially disastrous consequences as well as our attitude and vision for technological development. Technology must be serviceable to a great diversity of life forms and befit a responsible and sensible development.
The above responses are interesting, I agree with most of the answers above
Personally feel all the technologies because we can live without these which are interconnected but my concern is really are we caring out the ENVIRONMENT, ECOSYSTEMS, etc..
It is sad, but with modern interstate relations in the near future, science can again be determined by the presence of a baton and the skin of a bear as clothing.
I think 'Internet' and generation of 'non-conventional energy' will influence most in the near future.
Yes, "human technology" is the one which can shape the future. I am not undermining the role of nanotechnology, Biotechnology, Nuclear technology, genetic engineering, health and other engineering science and technologies.
Any technology itself is neither good or bad but depends on its use by the humans. If we use Human technology that produces efficient, considerate, committed and dedicated human, then they can shape the world. Otherwise, nuclear bombs, Biological, and chemical weapons are the product of technology ready to shape the world to the stone age.
Technology has changed our understanding of the way things work, changes the way we interact with one another and makes our lives much more efficient through releasing new devices that are smaller and faster and less costly. Technology will never end, and new devices will be released endlessly.
Salam researchers, and thank dear Yogesh for this interesting question.
everyday we've a new interesting technologies, some of them really change our life and the way we do things. For the society, I think Human technology, specially that one we can wear and they control our daily activities and life. in term of science, I think Nano technology and its implications still in the forefront.
Thanks Prof. Yogesh for the invitation. Great question which always has tons of attention. Usually the other question that is considered a twin is, what is the impact of the coming technologies on humanity?
I will refer you to a nice discussion from the year 2000,
http://millennium-project.org/millennium/future-technology.html
From there, I can say Genomics, Biotechnology, Nanotechnology, New energy resources technologies, Biomedical technologies, more on artificial intelligence etc...
Technologies bring positive changes in many domains, including health, education, transportation, safety and business and capable of creating immeasurable material comfort; however cannot replace the humanitarian values that have largely shaped world civilization. With the 1% wealthiest now owning more than the rest of the world combined, the status quo is simply unsustainable for the prosperity, peace and stability of the world. For a real inclusive global economy, a much broader distribution of the technology, wealth and information can enable all with an equal shot at success and better life. A fair distribution of these resources will determine who and how many people will prosper and succeed in the future ahead.

Dear Yogesh;
I think your question is a very good research topic. For instance a good analysis with decision making methods.
"technologies will influence and shape the science and society"
I hope the ones in and related with agriculture, water, health, renewable power, climate change, not the ones in and related with pollutants of the environmental, cause health problems, non-renewable power.
I hope world will spend money subjects like these ones, not to wars, militaries, weapons and so forth.
Have a nice day

Hello Dr.Yogesh
Everybody can't predict the near future,
which technologies in your opinion, will influence and shape the science and society at the most in near future?
My opinion depending on my field of plant pathology, we must find more chemical and biological agent friendly for environmental to control plant pathogens, because the society and science connecting with human, then, the human living on food that coming from agriculture.
Agriculture includes many things like plant culturing that infect with different plant pathogens.
We must control the plant pathogens and stop the effect of plant pathogens that causes several damages for plants.
Plant pathogens can cause a disaster, in same time, they used the synthetic chemical of fungicides, bactericides, nematicides to control them,
The synthetic chemical very dangerous on our life and everything and may extend to many years.
We need more technologies to find, breed, isolate, and determine more biological and chemical friendly to our life and for environmental
Thank you
Sincerely
Connectivity technology may dominate the scene. In the light of that, we should expect the shrinking of static science and technology that tends to isolate communities. I suggest mechano-electronics and robot technology may receive greater attention and more in terms of the following quote:
"By 2020, there will be over 5 billion internet users, with over half of them accessing the internet over handheld tablet devices and 80 billion connected devices worldwide. This connectivity will spread to our daily lives bringing the three silos of work, home and our surrounding environment into one seamless experience termed by Frost & Sullivan as “connected living.” Connected living will involve digital assistants that guide our everyday lives, music that seamlessly moves from our homes to cars as soon as we shut the house door to our house to start our commute as everything will sit in a cloud that we can access anywhere anytime. A new range of technology enabled services such as smart lighting, mobile working solutions, and smart governance will define and shape our everyday experiences.
This connectivity will push other sub trends, like big data to create market opportunities for new products and services; some that already here today, like social sentiment analysis, open innovation, new insurance business models and micro personalized marketing and medicines".
I think that the technologies that they prove their security and efficiency. For this, Statistics would have an important paper to say what is better.
Technologies essential for surviving of mankind:
1) Cognitive and behavioral neuroscience (control of destructive behavior)
2) Ecology (detoxification of polluted water and soil)
3) Agro-biology (food supply)
4) Medicine (viruses and antibiotic-tolerant pathogens cure)
Dear Dr. Arben,
The intent of the question is to look for opinion and thought on the impact of technology both on the future scientific research and human society and which technologies will influence both at the most. In response, a good number of interesting and enlightening answers have so far been received from scholarly RG colleagues.
I think a search for simplicity. How to produce healthy, large-scale food to feed more people precisely with less need for technology. Technologies aimed at education aiming at the maintenance and recovery of aquifers for recycling and distribution, in addition to the rational use of water. Health education: prevention of major diseases affecting a human being, since we are already losing the war on antibiotics for a long time. And, remembering Einstein, simplicity is the highest degree of sophistication.
The previous replies are all interesting and I agree with lots of answers from my colleagues
Very nice Sergei. Looks like the totals represent much reality.
I like to add here, Biotechnology and Gynomics, looking for new sources of medicines and new engineering of foods.
1. Software will disrupt other traditional industries.
2. Space Science wil develop and may allow people to go and live elsewhere in the universe.
3. Robotics will overtake human beings and the day may not be far off when there will be human sheds controlled by robots instead of cattle sheds.
The 10 Social And Tech Trends That Could Shape The Next Decade
A decade ago the idea of driverless fully electric cars, digital currencies and deep sea mining seemed like science fiction. It is testament to the rapid pace of social, economic and technological change that we are witnessing that these concepts no longer seem impossible with Bitcoin trading at values that are best described as outlandish and the UN giving licenses away for companies to mine the sea beds. As such, a revolution is under way, where gadgets, large and small, are changing our society. And this stuff is not make-believe any more. In less than a decade, many of these trends will be embedded in our daily lives...

Nice sharing Ljubomir. Technology and social implications hand in hand.
Dear Colleagues,
Good Day,
We are in a tech-heavy society, plunging headlong into an unknown future. Science fiction is what allows you to stand back and analyze the impact of that and put it in context of how it affects people.
---- J. Michael Straczynski
Enlightening thread Prof Ljubomir on technological trends and their present and prospective socioeconomic implications.
Dear Yogesh, thanks for being invited. The question/statement is so wide that I prefer to point only to a single technological advance that will grow at a fast rate and be very, very welcome to humanity as a whole.
Except for a small percentage of vegetarians, the majority of the world population eats meat of cows, goat/sheep and chicken. There are about a billion cows on the world which serve to produce mild and a huge portion of them will beaten as stake and hamburger.
In the United States, together with scientists in Israel, labs have been set up to grown meat from a stem-cell of the animals in question. It takes at this moment quite some time to grow--to multiply--the cells to become meat that has the smell of meat, almost the taste of meat as well as its feeding characteristics.
Rabbis in Israel have already told the media that the grown meat is indeed taken from a animal stem cell, but after the multiplication of the cells, the animal in it is so watered down that the product becomes parve, or neutral, indicating that vegetarians can eat it without to think of the animal to be slaughtered.
The first hamburger was priced 225.000 US dollars and a week ago in Israel one is working on fake-meat, which, as promised, will be 1-5 dollars a kilo. This price will make it possible for everybody on our globe to eat meat according to the taste he likes the most.
Besides this, we will not be pestered any longer with the cruelties shown on Youtube of animals packed in ships and murdered at arrival whereas the killers make even fun with them be fore killing.
Another plus-point is the lack of tons of methane gas that cows produce and destroy our atmosphere. I can think on more examples, but I thought that this food process of having meat on the table for almost everybody is the best example for the technology in the future on a world-scale.
Good information Prof Jan on technological advancement towards tackling the food and nutritional security for burgeoning world population. However, it may not be easily acceptable to strictly vegetarians. As such technology to increase agriculture production considering the shrinking productive land would be crucial and a great challenge in future.
Science and technology on fast forward!
Science and technology feed off of one another, propelling both forward. Scientific knowledge allows us to build new technologies, which often allow us to make new observations about the world, which, in turn, allow us to build even more scientific knowledge, which then inspires another technology … and so on. As an example, we'll start with a single scientific idea and trace its applications and impact through several different fields of science and technology, from the discovery of electrons in the 1800s to modern forensics and DNA fingerprinting …

The new technologies that will change human civilization as we know it
In 10 years we will look back on our life today and wonder how we could have lived with such primitive technology.
http://hplusmagazine.com/2014/05/13/the-new-technologies-that-will-change-human-civilization-as-we-know-it/
alternatively, if we continue as we are now, we will be "reduced" to returning to what we now consider "primitive technologies, no?
Those which will potentially have a huge impact will be AI and robotics.
electronic hardware that supports artificial intelligence and robotics
Well Marie-Christina, the same dilemma happened when the Japanese decided to go for full automation, and the question of unemployment was high, it also happens that evolution of alternatives go par-in-par with evolution of AI. On the other hand, the cycle of evolution leads at any time to what you described, looking back at primitive technologies, but at least 10 folds more advanced!!
not always. when a society collapses, as we are in dire danger, then "all is lost" and we must begin anew, as has been done many times over! I am writing here as an anthropologist as well as an art psychotherapist and researcher.
It is difficult to predict what will determine our study directions. Life goes changing rapidly with huge amounts of inventions .

I rather think that we cannot afford 10 more years of senseless technological advance. Senseless hope that we will hack our way out through technologies. Primitive technologies had the advantage of the recking the whole planet and did not demand new technologies to sold the problems it is creating.
Hi Yogish,
Ans: Perceptual technologies such as Vision-Space based on experiential realty and not the records made by current technology.
Check out the Vision-Space project: https://www.researchgate.net/project/Vision-Space-A-new-form-of-illusionary-space-based-on-perceptual-structure-not-optical-projection
It’s reasonable to assume that as technology continues to accelerate, we can expect dramatic changes in the years and decades ahead. Most of us have come to take rapid technological improvement in the products and services we used
Ii think the following link is interesting :https://www.nmc.org/pdf/Future-of-Higher-Ed-(NMC).pdf
From the genetics of the human body to the possibilities of life in outer space, we will be exploring the big questions facing humankind. Our mission is to ignite national conversations with three key questions: How is your life changing? How is our world changing? How is our health changing?

Hi
Mechatronics and the move towards more development of miniaturization of artifacts specially the making of crawling robots to monitor all types of vital signals in the human body.
In my opinion the following technologies will shape the society in the near future:
· Nanotechnology
· Bioprinting
· Augmented Reality
Technology already revolutionized everything. Still go ahead in all fields. It does not have boundaries. I wonder to see the developments in medicine, pharmacy and many other fields.
Researchers print stem cells using 3D bioprinter to form cartilage

Yogesh, dear, after your answer to my note on stem-cell grown meat which you centered around the bourgeoisie, I decided that for the remaining people, perhaps the majority on earth, agriculture is more important as a food stock.
Agriculture depends on know-how, earth and water. Water is difficult to get if one does not have a water source close by. Great ancient civilizations were all grouped around sweet water rivers as well as the yearly flooding of these to renew the earth. Today, sea water is used in Israel which is converted in five desalination plants along the Mediterranean and the Red Sea. Our population has almost tripled since the 1940s so that the only Lake we have cannot provide all water needed. Desalination is expensive but once it is there, progress in agriculture is a fact.
This lets us with earth. In the 1950s some scientists researching ancient agriculture in archaeological excavations in the Desert of the Negev in Israel, that the desert actually was covered with a thick layer of fertile loess that was air-born from Nubia and the Sahara. This matter is like cacao so that water runs off from its surface. Nevertheless, when Aharoni, my colleague at the excavations of Beer Sheba in the Negev desert saw the naked terrain around him, he planted trees whereas a Bedouin family during the months that there were no excavations would water the small trees. At present, the desert is blossoming and in the new generation, the Negev will not be mentioned any longer as a 'desert".
It is my opinion and surely my hope that other areas on earth can become fertile when water is used to water the planted crops
Indeed, making unusable water usable is a great service to the humanity that technology can offer. The success made in Israel is commendable. But desalination of water requires a lot of energy and the technology to desalinate water are expensive. There are environmental costs of desalination as well. Since, we have tapped nearly all of the accessible freshwater resources (rivers, ponds, etc), overharvested groundwater, and already built more dams than can be afforded economically and environmentally, use of plentifully available ocean water through desalination is increasingly becoming an attractive option, despite economic and environmental impediments. As such, inexpensive technology is warranted to use sea water.
Yogesh, yes, it is expensive to make enough energy to make sweet water out of ocean water. Nonetheless, sooner or later it has to be done, whatever the costs.
What do you think of dew-catchers which have been successfully used in Morocco, as I remember? The collected dew suffices for special fine agricultural crop.
Yes, Dear Jan, Historical evidences are also there about dew collection as an ancient practice. See the attached thread.
Actually, dew is composed of tiny droplets of water; each cubic meter of fog contains 0.05 to 0.5 grams of water. Dew water can be seen as a nonconventional source of water and may be exploited in regions where weather conditions favour dew formation. For dew collection, huge nets are hung between two poles to capture the droplets that are then gathered into the storage tanks. The water is pure for drinking and can be used for agriculture. If used on a larger scale the possibility to change the hostile desert environment is great.

Dear @Yogesh, this is about the fact how scientific choices need to be made, bearing in mind the effect it could have to society.
A pan-European Scientists’ Community Promoting an Open Science in an Open World
This meeting is tomorrow, link for live webcast is attached.
The 2nd Homo scientificus europaeus Meeting will be organized at the Ateneu Barcelones on 16 May 2017. Its aim is to foster the creation of a large pan-European community of citizen-scientists supporting the new social contract between science and society. In the morning, representatives of grassroots associations and organisers of March-for-Science from across Europe will discuss national initiatives. They will lead to discussions about their convergence...

Thanks Prof. Ljubomir for information and sharing the link.
There are various technologies emerging, but the future would depend on the convergence of technologies in an organic manner.
Dear Colleagues,
Good Day,
"Science, Engineering, and Technology
Distinct but interconnected
...... Engineering, science, and technology also influence (and are influenced by) society. Our human values, needs, or problems often determine what questions scientists investigate and what problems engineers tackle. Meanwhile the technologies that are the products of science and engineering influence society and change human culture (just think of the impacts of cars and cell phones!).
The attached infographic shows how science, engineering, and technology connect to society...Please, see the link (as Reference)....

Technological advance though have placed us in a more privileged position today; however, it is the human attitude towards their use that will ultimately shape the future of humanity and our planet. Technology in the areas of nuclear weapons, bioengineering, superintelligence and nanotechnology can be boon otherwise potentially disastrous.
Dear Colleagues,
Good Day,
Here is a very interesting article that related to the thread with a title: "How technology will change the future of work".
