Upgrading infrastructure can certainly help. Buildings worldwide contribute around one third of all greenhouse gas emissions , even though investing in thicker insulation and other cost-effective, temperature-regulating steps can save money in the long run.

Stop Cutting Down Tree

Every year, 33 million acres of forests are cut down. Timber harvesting in the tropics alone contributes 1.5 billion metric tons of carbon to the atmosphere. That represents 20 percent of human-made greenhouse gas emissions and a source that could be avoided relatively easily.

The irony is that we talk about climate change but never bother to take the necessary precautions that are needed to combat that. We arrange seminar on global warming inside an air conditioned room. In the name of development we are destroying our forests. We are using GM crops to destroy biodiversity in the name of ‘Green Revolution’. Global market policy is facilitating Multi National Companies (MNC) to establish their control on every happening of the developing and under developed countries including their food market and climatic environments. Establishment of industries that require stringent environmental restrictions in a developed country can be set up with almost no restriction in a developing or an under developed country. Unless these issues are addressed it will be extremely difficult to save our planet.

Some measures that can help counter climate change:

Implementing carbon taxes for pollutors

Developing energy efficient behaviors

Managing waste (some parts of the developed world have surprisingly low awareness and infrastructure for effective waste management)

Eating more local produce and organically grown products; cutting down on processed foods

Reducing meat intake; the meat processing industry leaves a massive carbon footprint and uses up gallons of water

Measures like cap-and-trade, carbon taxes and similar policies are trying to remedy a situation that we do not want to have. They try to bring at least one advantage out of a major disadvantage. Of course, a tax does not only punish, it is also a means to inhibit, but not the strongest imaginable.

Especially when it is across borders, where public regulation is limited, we need stronger and more effective measures. And here, everybody contributing to climate change is called for action, every physical and legal person.

The action fields are many-fold and comprise

• energy:

energy efficient products and production, consumer awareness about energy consumption and resulting energy saving conduct, renewable energy, energy recovery, ...

• materials:

reuse and recycling, new materials, ...

• waste:

waste reduction, more efficient waste management, ...

• pollution:

reduction of traffic e.g. by optimized logistics, improved freight capacity utilization, increased regional cooperation, ...

Much can be achieved when not only individual companies implement stringent sustainability programs, even more can be achieved through industrial symbiosis. Whether this form of cooperation is organized by a municipality ("smart city"), an industry park, regional cluster or a "consortium" of companies, the participating organizations have the chance to create win-win situations for themselves, their partner organizations and, finally, the climate!

They can profit e.g. through turning waste produced by one organization into valuable feedstock for its partner, reuse waste heat, ... By industrial symbiosis, participating organizations usually do not only strongly contribute to ecology, but can derive economic benefits as well.

In the last decade, average temperature continues to rise, while we began 2014 with a range of extreme weather events, such as the intense heat waves in Europe.

"Finally the government should develop a low-carbon industrial strategy and provide the conditions for investment, the report says. This would aid towards climate goals whilst helping to create well-paid jobs in every region, ensuring that all parts of the country benefit from an economic recovery.

We should stop using fossil fuel in transportation industry... end period.  Come up with processes in industry  that does not require conversion of oxygen to CO2 (for example solution-printing parts)

Friends, I agree that each of us must do our part to reduce wastage of resources: oxygen, water, electricity, petrol etc.  There are also NGO's for this action of tackling climate change.

Carbon taxes should be a good opportunity to address global climate changes. The most important aspect is the cultural changes towards a good management of the environment for future generations (sustainability), reducing the burderns of human industrial activity. In addition, climate change mitigation strategies research should be strengthened including low-carbon energy sources such as renewable energies.

The whole issue of climate change is confusing to the public; to some degree it is our fault as scientists.  Currently I am working on a paper that addresses the question of ‘Is it appropriate to use certain public databases for model input benchmarks?’  What our analysis indicates is that use of these databases for benchmarks can produce conflicting results with poor accuracies.  When we ask what steps we should take to improve our ability to address climate change that cross national boundaries, we should first stop to think about the quality of our science and if we have done our job by delivering results that are credible, valid, accurate, believe-able, and reproduce-able.  Here are some points I believe are critical for making climate change a public priority.

1)      Acknowledge that climate changes naturally.  Some questions that spawn are:

a.      Are increasing greenhouse gasses in the atmosphere and other influences excelerating climate change beyond natural rates of change?

b.      Can we establish a credible, accurate, believe-able and valid benchmark rate for natural climate change?

c.      Are our current methods of life-cycle analysis credible, accurate, believe-able and valid?

d.      Is it possible to slow climate change or should we be focusing our efforts on how we will adapt to climate change?

2)      Conflicting study results reduce public confidence in scientific findings.

a.      Ultimately the goal of science should be to deliver knowledge to public leadership to make intelligence policy decisions.  I am not going to debate politics with anyone but I’m sure we can all agree that informed decisions are the best decisions.

b.      Conflicting results reduce public confidence in scientific findings.  With respect to climate change, the scientific community made some significant mistakes.

                                                    i.     In the 1970’s an ice age was predicted in the near future. Later this theory was disproven.

                                                   ii.     Initially, the public was told that the planet is warming and ‘global warming’ became the buzz-word when we should have explained that what we are experiencing is climate change.  I have heard comments from the ‘man-on-the-street’ such as ‘we could use some of the global warming today’.  In addition, I recently read an article that stated that a recent storm that cause a local disaster was not due to climate change but from changes in wind patterns.  The article made me wonder if changes in wind patterns were due to climate change??? 

c.      Unfortunately, the public is so confused on the issue, policy at the local, state, national, and global level is stymied more or less because our policy makers don’t know which results to believe.

3)      Why are study results conflicting?

a.      This question also leads to more questions.

                                                    i.     Have results been validated in a manner that another research can use them to arrive at the same result?

                                                   ii.     Are we using reliable benchmark data?

                                                  iii.     Are we quantifying error?

                                                  iv.     Are we up-front with our assumptions and explain why these assumptions are important to consider?

I believe that before we can influence policy, the scientific community needs to examine their own issues; have we done our job?  Before sound policy can be implemented, we have to first identify the questions that are most important and answer them with credible results.  To some degree our policy of publish or perish has led to hurried science that can get sloppy.  That reality is not likely to change in the near future.  These are some of my rambling thoughts…take them any way you like.

Your post is pointing to the so called Global Warming Hoax. However, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), has came to the conclusion that the largest contributor to global warming is the increase in atmospheric carbon dioxide (CO2) since 1750, and it focuses its attention on emissions from fossil fuel combustion, cement production, and land use changes such as deforestation. The IPPC's Fifth Assessment Report (AR5) states

Human influence has been detected in warming of the atmosphere and the ocean, in changes in the global water cycle, in reductions in snow and ice, in global mean sea level rise, and in changes in some climate extremes. This evidence for human influence has grown since AR4. It is extremely likely (95-100%) that human influence has been the dominant cause of the observed warming since the mid-20th century. - IPCC AR5 WG1 Summary for Policymakers.

The Climate change is only one of great problems that humankind will face in next 10 years. So, let's be realistic and draw our plans within the current and coming economic and political circumstances. The best that we can do - to convince politicians that scientific models of Climate changes, wild species extinction, soil fertility degradation, freshwater shortage, new diseases (attacking all - humans, animals and plants) are correct and ALL steps must be done NOW, not after next round of elections. It is hard job, because any real steps will need considerable decrease of "life quality" for majority of population in developed countries, and for elite of developing ones.

It is not new nor my idea, I have just repeated unpublished resume of one international meeting held in Japan at 1997 on the same topic.  

If the global community accepts climate change as a common challenge, it is the beginning of the harmony that is inevitably essential to address this critical challenge, so to speak. This is a sort of moral start. The set of responsibilities/tasks that constitutes action includes: technological innovations that can facilitate change, economic measures that can incentivize change, social capital that can contribute to change, institutional arrangements that can motto change, policy measure that can enforce change. Above, change refers to outcome of efforts (steps) geared to mitigate and adapt to climate change.

The best way is to control population. Without this the burden on natural resources will remain increasing and hence climatic disturbance. Secondly the policy of use and through should be stopped. Recycling and reuse of things will decrease pollution and will diminish climate change.

Protecting and restoring nature can help protect people from climate change.

Around the globe, seasons are shifting, temperatures are climbing and sea levels are rising. And meanwhile, our planet must still supply us – and all living things – with air, water, food and safe places to live. If we don't act now, climate change will rapidly alter the lands and waters we all depend upon for survival, leaving our children and grandchildren with a very different world.

Climate change, one of the most complex issues facing us today involves many dimensions including science, economics, society, politics and moral and ethical questions. It's a global problem, felt on local scales, that will be around for decades and centuries to come. Carbon dioxide, the heat-trapping greenhouse gas that has driven recent global warming, lingers in the atmosphere for hundreds of years, and the planet takes a while to respond to warming. So even if we stopped emitting all greenhouse gases today, global warming and climate change will continue to affect future generations. In this way, humanity is “committed” to some level of climate change.
