Recently we tested this technique in Sprague-Dawley Rats in Shiraz University of medicine, Shiraz, Iran. With the cooperation of Dr. Mojtaba Naghshvarian (Dean of Moharreri Hospital) who is one of the best in this technique.
We gathered valuable data (Unpublished Data).
And also if you read some literature, you will find that there are many literature with Rat as a suitable animal model.
And also if your vehicle is small you can design with BALB/c mice. In china, some students are doing a running test with the BALB/c. It depends on tissue amount that you need and equipment that you have.
Hi, it always depend on what do you want to study, and of course which kind of EAE is your target (relapsing-remiting; Progresive; monophasic), also if you want an active or a passive (transfer) system.
1. active: C57/BL6J mice immunized with MOG(35-55) peptide.
2. active/monophasic: Lewis Rats immunized with MBP Peptide.
3. active chronic: Dark-Auguti Rats immunized with rMOG protein.
4. passive: SJL/J mice immunized with PLP peptide, after 10 days isolate the LNCs and restimulate in vitro with PLP peptide for 4 days and inject the cells in new mice.
There are quite a few models, and the Paper Gold,R 2006 is a good beginning.
Another thing there are different strains of C57BL6 the one from Jackson (J) is the more sensitive to EAE.
