I want to use a thermal evaporation coating process to coat a tungsten electrode. For improvement of micro-EDM performance which powder is suitable? Will thermal evaporation based coating give improved micro-edm performance?
I am using 0.3 mm electrodes.
Can I used Zinc powder?
Please give your suggestions.
Tungsten electrodes are mostly used for micro- or nano-machining, because of the higher mechanical stability. When electrode diameter of 0.3 mm Cu electrodes are still much cheaper, ie I would switch to tungsten until diameter of less than 100 microns. But also plays a role in how long must the electrode (high aspects).
For the wire erosion there are galvanized wires which are to my knowledge, between 20 and 300 microns in diameter. Add zinc powder to the dielectric can only be answered so; good for the process stability, otherwise not so favorable.

Powder will not work in thermal evaporation system. If you are planning for thermal evaporation process then use any metal(zinc) pellet or strip with planetary rotation arrangement for entire coating and uniformity otherwise shadow effect will occur. Sputtering can be an alternate solution.

When using Powder they have too many unnecessary changes in their dielectric-treatment plant. Just use Zn-galvanized wires that is about the same effect. It turns merely the question of the extent of the wire diameter can be reduced if a Zn-galvanizing is to be used.
