I already read answers to that question but I need more precision. In my laboratory, we've got DMEM Glutamax and DMEM:F12 Glutamax, both from life technologies (invitrogen). Can anyone tell me if one of these mediums can be use for SH-SY5Y? Or should I buy another medium?
I use nromal DMEM supplemented with glutamate and non-essential amino acids. The SH-SY5Y grow fine. The non-essential amino acids may not be necessary, so your DMEM Glutamax should work.. just try :)
I use RPMI 1640, supplemented with 10% heat inactivated FBS and pen-strep antibiotics.
I have read many studies that use RPMI 1640, and as well ATCC recommends an EMEM:F12 (1:1) mix.
Personally I have been growing SH-SY5Y cells for just over a month with a DMEM:F12 parallel with EMEM:F12, and there is no measurable difference between the cells as of yet.
(Of course these are all with the standard 10/1 FBS and pen-strep)
