We are currently working on a water quality related project, and one of the problem comes up is some parameters might change during the transit (about 1 hour drive).
For example turbidity, DO, pH this kind of sensitive parameters. We tried to take the equipment to the site and did the test there to compare with the result testing after back to lab, but the turbidity is really low (usually under 7 NTU), so even from 3 NTU to 4 NTU change still seems a large difference...
Just wondering anyone have any idea or advice on this? Shall we just ignore the difference or probably we better buy some turbidity meter and take them to sites?

suspended particles sattled in the bottom of sample bottle which May effect the Turbidity . However some ionic precipitation and gas dissolve process during keeping the sample. are also possible.
Have you considered the effects of sedimentation of solids in parameters like turbidity? As far as I know granulometry of solids and their composition might be different for different places and water bodies.
Dissolved oxygen has some methods that allow preservation. For example, SM has a method that allows its preservation until the sample is measured through titration.
I do not know any kind of "preservation" for pH and there might be (or not) activity in the samples leading to a modification of pH.
If you are more specific about the parameters to be measured in situ and in lab, I am sure the answers might be much more accurate.
