Dear community,

I am in the process of evaluating different future scenarios for an islanded micro-grid energy system. My basic thought is to assess different shares of renewable energies in the electricity grid in 2035 and to evaluate these scenarios according to my criteria - e.g. Scenario 1 - 40% RE in the grid; scenario 2 - 60% RE and so on. I therefore need the most suitable modelling tool to do this. Right now, I am considering HOMER, LEAP or EnergyPLAN.

The input parameters that I already have are

  • Daily load profile for 2035; 365 days
  • Share of RE in overall electricity used (scenario based)
  • Installation costs per kW(p) of solar, wind and diesel
  • Insolation
  • Wind speeds
  • Installed capacity of existing energy sources
  • Grid losses in distribution

What I ideally want as an output are the following (for every scenario):

  • Generation profile per source
  • Battery load profile, if applicable
  • LCOE
  • Greenhouse gas emissions

Generally, the tool should have an acceptable standard of transparency and robustness. I also thought about modelling it myself in excel, but I suppose these tools exist for reason and are very good in what they are doing.

I am grateful for all replies.

Thank you
