I need to quantify images from immunofluorescence assays. Which is the minimum number of images to be taken when I take into account the reactivity area of positive cells to a specific marker? If I want to compute the length of the neuronal processes, how many lengths do I have to take from each image, in order to do a good statistical analysis?

I acquire a minimum of 8 images from each sample and perform the experiment a minimum of three times (n=3). That should be sufficient to get a good statistical significant data.

That's right, Chiara, as my colleague Sebastian Schmitt says, is a strictly statistical problem and specifically of statistical inference and particularly the size of the sample that will depend on the mean and the standard deviation, if it behaves like a normal distribution (which will be the most depending on the type of variable). This is to be within an accepted confidence interval. Remember that you can take several measurements N=30 and only present some images. Although you can always look at the bibliography.
