I have a sample containing ethanol, TEOS and ammonia in a small amount. The sample could also contain traces of silica nanoparticles. I am new to gas chromatography, can any one suggest me which column / detector I need to use to determine the concentration of TEOS in the sample?
MS is a good detector. I am puzzled with your question on column? Are you asking the brand or type of the column.
I think you must use a polar column (100% polyethylenglicol) such as DB-WAX or INNOWAX.
The changes in volatility are big, thus every GC column - like PDMS or PEG can be used.
Detector - Etanol and TEOS can be detected by FID or MS.
NH3 - you can use TCD, MS, NPD, ECD or BID.

I would not disagree with anyone here. All seem to be on the right track. I am leery of the silica nano particles. In the past I have had problems with teflon nano particles in HPLC. I would be interested to see how your silica nano particles would impact GC columns or detectors.
