We are trying setting up a system to study Obstructive sleep apnea in rodents (mice and eventually rats).
I would be grateful to receive information about:
1) What are the common parameters that should be studied in the mice and with which equipment
2) Relevant Literature
3) Most relevant models (e.g. Intermittet Hypoxia).
4) Other points to take care of.

Sleep apnoea is always connetcted with arterial chemoreceptor stimulation. Simple parameters showing that these pO2a sensors are excitated are, of course tidal volume and breathing rate that enabls you to calculate minute ventilation.
In the elctrocardiogram (ECG) an increase in the PQ/RR or also the PR/RR ratio indicates that the arterial chemoreceptors are active.

Few if any animal models can be regarded as precise equivalents to to sleep apnoea in humans (for a variety of reasons), and most work has concentrated on intermittent hypoxia. Nadhuri Prabhakar has published extensively on the latter, and originally developed some of the methodologies. I have attached a file with some references on OSA and intermittent hypoxia that I provide for teaching, which refer to previous publications where the methods and key measurements are given in more detail.
