Dear all,

consider an administrative building with 15 zones on three floors, occupied only between 7 a.m. and 8 p.m. It has a central heating with a certain number of fan coils in each zone. It is possible to set air temperature for each zone (15 set points) and also temperature and flow of the incoming hot water (2 set points). There is a simple on/off regulation ensuring to follow the set points. Inside each zone, there is a sensor of presence and temperature (also relative humidity for some zones). Furthermore, there are also sensors of gas and electricity consumption. All those variables are stored centrally and set points can be set from the central control center. Local weather database is also available. My question is: for this special case, what could be an ICT based smart control scenario with highest potential benefits in terms of energy savings, costs savings, comfort maintenance, etc. For example, possible scenarios are heating start time optimization, model predictive control, reduction of night time set points, temperature compensated control, etc. Obviously, a certain amount of comfort should be satisfied especially for the daytime period. I am very interested in different ideas and opinions of people from different fields. I am especially interested in the highest upper-bound benefits (for example savings that can come if I have a perfect weather predictions and a perfect model of the building). Thank you for any comment.

Martin.
