I have problems with the ATCC’s distributor in Mexico. I ordered a normal breast cell line and it took eight months to send it. Does anyone know about another source of breast cancer cells? I need two triple negative breast cancer cell lines.
You can order from ATCC or send emails to people who are working on TNBC requesting some cells. I have a panel of TNBC cells and I am based in Oxford University .. I am happy to give you some cells but you have to arrange for delivery. Good luck
There are several TNBC lines available from ATCC. You need to be aware of the fact that TNBC is a heterogeneous group of diseases. The cell line most often used is MDA-MB231. It is highly tumorigenic in mice, and metastatic subclones have been derived by Juan Massague`. However, this cell line carries a K-ras mutation (very rare in breast cancer) and is representative of the "claudin-low" subtype of TNBC. MDA-MB468 is a "basal-like" cell line which is PTEN -/- and represents the most common subtype of TNBC. Several other TNBC cell lines can be found in the ATCC catalog. For mouse "TNBC-like" cell lines, 4T1 is a good first choice.
I recommend you ATCC, they work very well. Also, select properly your cell lines. Triple negative breast cancer are at least 4 or 5 different diseases!!! Suerte.
My lab uses MDA-MB-231 cells as well. I am afraid the best source is ATCC. Cells must be shipped frozen in dry ice, and packages shipped by individuals are often subjected to unnecessary delays, especially in these days of collective paranoia. Chances are the cells would not be viable by the time you receive them. There is at least one other commercial source I know of: Sigma-Aldrich sells these cells for a lot more than ATCC. I don't know if they will ship to Mexico.
I appreciate every answer. I will keep trying with ATCC. Hope this time I can get the cells in a shorter time. I looked the Sigma options but they only have MDA-MB-231 cells for TBNC. I will still need a second cell line. There are a lot of issues to cross cells through the border, so the best option is to buy them. Is there MDA-MB-231 the best option? I was planning to buy HCC70 and HCC1806.
It depends on what you're looking for in TNBC. If you're looking for a triple-negative model that spontaneously metastasizes, 4T1 is a great line. If you're not looking for metastasis, then 67NR is your best bet.
