Scientific problems of human learning psychology do extremely depend on our view of the living organism. As the stimulus-response (S-R) mechanism does not work for humans, it is imporant to research into the phase between S-R, which is called cognition or mentalization. I can only imagine creative empirical methods, which try to capture the emergence of human cognition; even computation would be a workable way of study.

Descriptive (in a wider range: qualitative) and quantitative research is named "empirical" reseach. "Empirical" means: It can be experienced (recorded by our senses). Empirical procedures are in contrast to normative views (The latter have to do with the question: What should be?) So the answer depends on the research task. If you study autobiographic narratives with regard to the remembered educational problems in the childhood of group or a local population normally you will prefer descriptive (qualitivate) methods; if the interest is - for example - to know something about the political or educational attitudes of different groups then you will construct a questionnaire with interval scales in order to apply a statistic test (normal procedure in (quantitive) hypothesis testing research).
Descriptive as in , what I am looking for , I try not making it too elaborate .
Psychological interpretation , sorry I do not know !!!
I would choose a study that combines empirical research and descriptive research. The data would constitute the empirical side, and the interpretation of the data would constitute the descriptive side.
It depend on what you are surveying for ? I think my answer will be both of them

In fact, I prefer the empirical research because it is a good method to gain knowledge by means of observation or collecting data from the field.
Generally, I do prefer to use a mixed approach, but It depends on the research problem itself if it is exploratory or it needs to obtain rich, detailed comprehensive information or to capture a phenomenon as it naturally unfolds, I prefer use the Qualitative research method. On the other hand, if the research problem requires a deductive approach, I use the empirical

When we wish to study the education problem we have to carry out the entire scrutiny of the problem & also to evaluate our study regarding the problem which may help us to go with analytic approach & description for our understanding regarding education problem .
If we take recourse of understanding the scrutiny of education problem ,we may certainly find the result & so to say a right of action for the problem . In such cases other variation ,logic , or interpreting the problem may not arise .

Both empirical and descriptive research when used in a mixed approach would yield excellent and richer findings for the study.
