My study is about synthesizing fish scales into chitosan and I am currently washing my demineralized fish scales. My sample fish scales were size reduced beforehand and when 1% HCl was added, it has become a slurry. I shaked it on a mechanical shaker overnight. Now I am washing it but it won't pass through the filter paper even with the assist of the vacuum pump. I kept on transferring it on clean filter papers in order for it to flow. Now, I have produced a portion of my samples that are neutral. Mind you that I have used loads of distilled water already from washing my samples (any advice on this too?) However, I can see string like fibers sticking out as I scooped/scraped it off the filter paper so I can dry it. Will it be okay? I also contemplated that when I just dry it on the filter paper, the scales will still stick to the filter paper and there will be more fibers on my sample that will attach to it.
