DNA-based identification have been used in nematology for decades. If I use several common DNA markers (eg. SSU and LSU D2D3) to identify one group of nematodes, may I call it DNA barcoding?
Thank you for your response! cox1 is a universal animal identification barcodes. For other taxon, different barcodes are chosen. e.g. ITS for fungi. They are also called DNA barcoding.
Generally one task of DNA-barcoding is a standardized way of doing DNA-based identification (the standardized part being the choice of marker - the CO1 in most animal Groups - and the Advantage of an open Access international data base (BOLD) where high quality reference sequences are stored).
