I am identifying cells that express my gene of interest and I think they might be glia cells. I would therefore need a reliable marker that would label as many glia as possible - Muller, Schwann cells etc... What would you recommend?
Most people uses GFAP, Vimentin, S100 or GLAST to label different types of Neuroglia. However I am not sure any of these will label all glia including astrocytes, radial glia (including Muller and Bergman glia) and Schwann cells. I used to use an antibody against TASK-1 two-pore domain leak potassium channel in rats that labelled all of these cell types. For example, see my following papers for details. I am not sure if this antibody will work in zebrafish, or if it is still available in the market place.
Best wishes,
Refik
