In general, it is a downward compatibility issue. The manual/guide of the higher version is supposed to provide information on this issue.

Usually, there should have no problem if we open the model in the higher version created in the lower version. Many of us do not experience such a problem. But vice versa may create a problem. Note that backward compatibility is not guaranteed beyond two versions of Abaqus, and it is recommended that you upgrade your commands to the most recent.

If the version is very old, the .odb file may be different from the newer one. In such a case, you may like to open the model with the old version of the abacus. Also, you can use the Keywords Editor to include options that the input file reader does not support. The article in the following link may help you:

Thanks to Mr.Imre Horvath and Mr.Md. Mahmud Sazzad. My problem involves 3D static analysis with several steps and model change command used in that. The model has several components also. Tie Constraint used for all. The model ran in 6.14 version and it didn't run in 2017 version. Thats my issue. I will go through the materials you provided. Thanks for your kind reply.
