What is the knowledge of exfoliation of the cancer cells in the abdominal cavity?
What type of relation for cancer cells (ie. colon cancer cells, epitelial over cancer cells...) interact with the peritoneum?
Could anybody please tell about both clinical and experimental data?
Sezai, the amount of clinical and experimental data on tumor cells growing in the peritoneal cavity is very, very large. The reason for this is that the peritoneum or the peritoneal cavity of the abdomen provides a very receptive environment for the growth of many types of tumor cells. This region has an abundant blood supply, so a lot of nutrients are available for cell growth. As a result, many types of tumor cells especially tumor cell types that originate in the gastrointestinal tract will be able to grow in the peritoneal cavity. Ordinarily, the immune system of the host will stop tumor cells or abnormal cells from growing there though. The immune system will kill them before they grow into a tumor mass. However, if the immune system is suppressed for some reason or if the number of tumor cells entering the peritoneal cavity is high enough, then a tumor will start to grow there. Hope this helps.
In my experience with the pateints in Oxford you can get a wide range of cell types but typically 10-50% tumour cells, 40-70% immune cells and 10-30% fibroblasts. Cells can be free or in small clumps. Often you can have blood cells and clots. Not all cells are viable on isolation. Very useful for oncolgy studies ex-vivo.

what is receptive part of peritoneum for cancer cells? Milky spots? ECM (extracellulaar matrix)? or integrins or all?
peritoneum with single layer mesothelial cells and ECM beneath the layer has a receptive role for each cancer cell type?
which way to be used by which type of cancer cells to adhere on peritoneum?
