For measuring whether there is cellular growth occuring or not during syngas fermentation, what is the blank to be used for spectrophotometer?
Hello, use absolute difference value of intimal stage of syngas fermentation OD and any stabile blank solution like distilled water as blank. After any grow of this value will indicate cellular grow. Only thing the correlation can be not linear as the OD of fermentation liquid can be changed even by cellular grow but also by generation of fermentation products during fermentation.
Ideally the blank would have the same composition as the uninoculated growth medium to compensate for any components that also absorb at the optical density being used to measure growth.
ideally what media you are using can be used as blank
or for a growth reference, you can always use distilled water as blank for all the samples
