Hello folks!

We have synthesized pyrrhotite from pyrite in inert gas at 800 degrees for 4 hours.

We analysed it via XRD (X-ray diffraction) and confirm the pyrrhotite phase. However, what is the best way from such analysis to quantify the x in the formula Fe(1-x)S? We know that troilite has a hexagonal structure, and more S-rich pyrrhotite a monoclinic structure. But we still need to know the x number.

Is it possible to do that via the XRD, or should we use another technique? (EDTA chemical reaction, or other instrumental analysis)?

Thanks a lot !

Cheers,

Juulia-Gabrielle Moreau
