3 years;extendable to 5 years

In India, the minimum and maximum yrs to get Ph.D. degree is 3 and 6 yrs respectively. After the maximum yr, if the candidate cannot finish the research work, further extension is governed by university ordinance ot the respective university.

In Universities of West Bengal, India including Calcutta University a scholar has to undergo re-registration if the thesis cannot be submitted within the stipulated period of time after registration

In India, it is 3-5 years generally.

For me, it was 5 and half years.

In some cases, it took even 8 years or more!

I know of a scholar who revised a genus in Botanical Survey of India for more than 5 years. His University guide was unable to provide time for correcting the manuscript. Being fed up he did not submit his thesis. After a long gap of 6 or 8 years he has again done re-registration in Calcutta University under a different guide. He is now hoping to submit his thesis soon.

So I think there is no such maximum tenure here.

I think minimum duration should be 4 years and maximum 7 years.

For me, it took me 3 years. I feel 3 - 7 years is actually a good time frame for a full time student

The normal period in Iraq is 3 years. This period is usually sufficient in human studies. However, it is not the case in the case of scientific and agricultural research, especially because the research carried out by the student in the field of agriculture depends on the environmental conditions. For any reason, he will have to conduct the experiment in the following season suitable for agriculture, so the researcher needs to extend the duration of his studies. Generally the duration is 3-5 years.

It ranges between 2 to 5 years.

University Grants Commission (UGC), New Delhi allows 5 years to complete the PhD which is extendable to 7 years. After that, special permission is required.

However, some universities are very slow and seems not keen to students interests.

It should be 3 years with a maximum extension by another year. PhD scholars often think that their PhD is the end of their academic career. Indeed it should be the start of their career.........

As per my knowledge, in most of Universities in India,time given for submission of thesis is 24 months which can be extended to 2 more years.
