I think nitrogen and sulfur compounds are the origin of bad smell and are the odorous compounds in waste ... what nanoparticles are useful for remove or inactivate such materials...
The best adsorbent to remove compounds having bad smell is activated carbon (charcoal). This is an adsorbent which proved its efficiency in removing such compounds in the forms of powder and granules.
it is true that bad smell comes from reduction of S by Sulphur reducing bacteria & formation of NH3 by bacterial activities present in the organic biodegradable waste/ wastewater, So it is recommended to subdue the production Sulphur reducing bacteria/ microbes by increasing the microbes those thrives on such bacteria. this is more self sustainable than to use Activated carbon,H2O2 etc to control the smell.
One such consortium was isolated by Prof. Higa of Japan. This isolated consortium is available under the brand name of EM solution.
There are several novel works that study the effectiveness of using zero valent iron nanoparticles to remove odourous compounds, as for example sulfur compounds. Check this works, I think they can be helpful for your work. They prove the removal of H2S and CH3SSCH3 with this kind of nanoparticles:
