This is true, many academic libraries are using bibliometrics as one of their functions. This trend started about three years ago. Scientometrics and bibliometrics experts could also occupy the positions of knowledge experts in companies that are information intensive, that is, are doing information and intelligence work to determine marketing objectives.
This role will form part of the Research & Development team that specializes in bibliometric data &
policy analysis, reporting and consultancy focusing on the international research community.This
team is dedicated to furthering the novel use of research indicators in informing and supporting
Thomson Reuters product innovation, as well as organisational research management and national
and international science policy among our customers.Responsibilities will include:
x Researching and qualifying indicators and quantitative measures of research output,
relevance, and impact, with emphasis on bibliometric measures as well as nonͲbibliometric
factors
x Analysing indicators to benchmark research performance from the level of individuals
through to organisational units within institutions, whole institutions and entire countries
x Analysing scientometric processes to support decisionͲmaking processes in researchͲbased
organisations
x Working with other data and statistical analysts within Thomson Reuters to explore current
data characteristics, limitations on data and indicator use and to improve internal
understanding and thereby support response to client needs and requests
x Maintaining an overview of developments within the field of scientometrics, reporting on
this within Thomson Reuters, and providing thoughtͲleadership in the innovative and applied
use of research data
x Cultivate reputation as a technical expert in the industry in the application and interpretation
of scientometrics for research evaluation and management, rankings, science policy and the
role that organisational administration plays in making business decisions and what they
need to make these decisions
The skill and talent is extremely useful. But organisations are not exploiting this subject for various reasons. I am doubtful of generating many jobs for experts in this subject. This is an important topic in library science but hardly these skills are used. But administrators should exploit staff skills for policy making as well administration changes. I do agree may be few institutions must have realised its importance and may be recruiting such experts. In general knowledge of these subjects is considered as additional qualifications
Many large Universities are now recruiting such experts to help them advise on, e.g., planning for research assessment, head-hunting or evaluating promising candidates for research-based jobs, advising on research areas to work in, and the like. In some cases, such individuals are full time bibliometricians, in other cases it is only part of their job, and they have other roles, such as research administration, or library work as well.
Bibliometrics librarianship is the most current area of study today. The contribution of large data and academic publishing to digital is great. This point is very important in the training of in-service and formal bibliometrics. Bibliometrics librarians should share their experiences more. Educator roles are prominent.

Reference librarian or electronic resources librarian works as a bibliometrician, but nowadays we heard these titles bibliometrician, bibliometric analyst, research services advisor as a separate profession name more than others for scientometric and bibliyometrics, webometrics.
