The proposed Samarkand Solar Power Project (the Project) aims to increase renewable energy generation and reduce greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) in Uzbekistan. The Project has two main components: (i) construction of a 100 megawatt (MW) grid-connected crystalline photovoltaic (PV) power plant with single axis tracking system; (ii) institutional capacity building on solar energy and grid integration, and (iii) project management and supervision.
Although alternative renewable energy resources integration to the utility grid is difficult and has to face several technical challenges, but for sure these are comparatively emits very less amount of GHG emission. In addition, fossil fuel resources are limited in stock and almost all the environmentalists are anxious about the climate change in the world. Therefore, it is great time to switch to the alternative resources by lowering fossil fuel use.
What will be the impact? I think it can't hurt. The only place where you can think it is necessary to increase the efficiency of solar panels to reduce the territory of the station.
Never effect the ecosystem of steppe, solar system is the one of the best solution of global warming. Always try to use unused area for solar power system
Correctly noticed by Mr. Ranjit Kumar, on account of the almost uninhabited area of desert. There are some areas that are almost lifeless. There and need to build station.
Projects which impact large areas impact the natural environment and always change the ecosystem. That doesn't mean we shouldn't pursue these projects but rather that the changes to the ecosystem be weighed and to the extent possible, ensure that the change to the microbalance of the impacted ecosystem doesn't remove something critical to the macrobalance of the area where the project is planned. Alternative energy sources are vital to the long-term needs of humanity, however, not without ensuring the natural environment has a balance for sustaining its place too.
Solar power plants are the future of Uzbekistan. The positive effect will affect as soon as possible. And at the expense of fauna of the area it is necessary to organize a reserve, it will be much more comfortable.
Solar energy will last for many millions of years. We will not wait for this solar energy technology to solve all the problems and we will use the optimal solution. It takes a long time. And during this time, the destruction of the ecosystem will acquire irreversible consequences.
It is necessary to compare the area of the power stations and the steppes. Obviously, the area of the last ones is much larger and the negative impact will be negligible.
Having watched the global energy markets closely for the past few years I hold the perspective that a balanced portfolio of sources is necessary to sustain industrial societies. Watching from the consumption heavy position in the U.S., I recognize many forces driving us to greater environmental concern. Rightly so but that concern is not consistent with development especially industrial development. With that background, I see all alternative means of electric energy continuing to be developed and employed. However, total elimination of fossil fuel use is not feasible today. Total transformation to "clean" energy (whatever that is) is not realistic. Here in the U.S., at a recent clean energy conference, I heard a consensus desire for nuclear power for base generation as a cleaner source. I appreciate the comments to consider all environmental impacts when applying solar.
Getting electricity from the sun has long been used all over the world. The main task of scientists at the moment is the need to improve existing technologies so that as much as possible to increase their efficiency.
Production of electricity from solar energy is a very relevant and interesting topic for many countries today. Small solar power plants can provide electricity to homes, businesses, public buildings and preserve the richness of the deep bowels of the earth. Large solar power systems are capable of generating an unlimited amount of electricity and contribute to the development of the electricity industry on a global scale.
And at the expense of a specific question I will say so. The technology of solar energy carriers is developing and in the near future will be compact, and there will be no difficulties with placement.
Solar energy is one of the most promising and dynamically developing sectors of renewable (non-traditional) energy. The annual growth of capacities put into operation during 2000-2016 is about 50%. In just a decade and a half, the share of solar electricity in the world's energy sector has reached more than 5%. Improving the technology of manufacturing photovoltaic modules has led to a significant reduction in the cost of solar electricity – in more than 30 countries (Germany, Chile, Australia, Mexico), it has become cheaper than obtained from fossil (oil, gas, coal) sources. Over the past 10 years, investments in solar energy amounted to about $ 300 billion. The most significant example of the success of solar technologies is the island of Tau (American Sea), previously completely dependent on the supply of diesel fuel, after the installation of modern SES became completely non-volatile.
With the development of solar energy technology, shortcomings will be eliminated and difficulties with placement will not arise.
Solar power plants (SES) – a set of equipment consisting of one or more solar modules and components (batteries, converters, controllers, and others). Installations are designed to generate electricity from the sun's rays with its subsequent reservation or supply to the network.
Advantages of solar power plants:
Solving problems in the absence of network energy sources, independence from centralized power sources, municipal infrastructure;
Removal of restrictions on allocated capacity
energy saving
Conservation of territories and natural resources from laying energy lines
Economic feasibility;
Environmental policy and environmental safety.
Steppe zones are little inhabited and I think that the ecology will not be much affected.
In order to take advantage of the growing demand, renewable energy companies and innovative firms in the field of alternative energy require enterprising leaders with experience in commercializing new technologies in global markets.
As a result of the strong demand for renewable energy sources, this industry has become a leader in the energy market, while for many organizations and industry sectors, environmental problems have led to the priority of environmentally friendly technologies.
I should also comment on the solar energy technology depicted in a few of the photos. In the US, Ivanpah is an example of application of the same. My understanding is the plant output is less than expected due to more cloud cover than was anticipated. Even a seemingly thin cloud cover impacts plant output. I like to call such an installation an inside-out boiler. Another problem has been bird kill. Birds flying too close to the biler area are caught in a thermal updraft and perish. No energy source is without environmental impact. Extensive wind-farms are taking energy out of the wind cycle. That energy is no longer available in the weather, or climate, cycle. Solar panels absorb energy that would otherwise be absorbed into the earth. A complete, global energy balance would be a benefit. That is a huge, and I expect underappreciated task.
I concur that the world will be tied to fossil fuels for the foreseeable future, That said, the advances in alternative energy and research into new ideas are vital to moving away from combustion of fossil fuels for primary energy production. solar, photovoltaics, fuel cells, batteries, wind energy, wave energy and other sources are viable and becoming more competitive. The biggest support we can give is pressing our governments to invest in the research, development, and implementation and building an infrastructure to allow these sources the full opportunity to expand and fully develop.
The development of alternative energy is an inevitable reality. But the nature works on wear and tear, and that there was no Apocalypse it is necessary to hurry with application of alternative energy.
Renewable energy is very important for our life. One of the most energy in the world is solar energy. We can see how the threes can live with it. We are also having used it for our life, naturally, for lighting and drying. However, we have to make an appropriate research to utilize it as well for generate electricity. Now, the solar cell efficiency is only around 20%. I think we can increase it revolutionary if we work altogether.....hopefully....
Often the steppe or desert are considered as "empty" zones, very suitable for installing of solar panels. In fact, there is life in this regions and the shading of a significant part of the earth surface can destroy the already fragile nature.
By the way, who and how will remove dust from solar panels in steppe?
I feel time has come to explore more about the alternate energy. In India we are using alternative energy in scattered manner but we need to create a sustainable plan to make wide use of the alternate energy.
Vadim S. Gorshkov, you drew attention to very important issues. It is likely that in deserts it is necessry to clean the panels more often then in another places. We clean the mirrors of the heliostats of the Big Solar Furnace in Parkent (Uzbekistan) 2 times a year (area about 3100 sq.m) . This is hard work.
To develop this energy source, geothermal power plants are used, using the energy of high-temperature groundwater, as well as volcanoes. At the moment, hydrothermal energy is more common, using the energy of hot underground sources. Petrothermal energy, based on the use of " dry " heat of the earth's interior, is currently poorly developed; the main problem is considered to be the low profitability of this method of energy production.
(Lightning flashes on the Earth's surface occur almost simultaneously in many different places on the planet)
Thunderstorm energy, based on the capture and accumulation of lightning energy, is still in its infancy. The main problems of storm energy are the mobility of storm fronts, as well as the speed of atmospheric electrical discharges (lightning), which makes it difficult to accumulate their energy.
Solar panels are most productive with plentiful insolation, light winds, moderate temperatures and low humidity. These are the same conditions that are best for agricultural crops, and vegetation has been shown to be most efficient at using available water under mesic conditions where atmospheric evaporative demand is balanced by precipitation supply. Estimates of cropland expansion since 1700 suggest that much contemporary cropland was previously savannas/grasslands/steppes and forest/woodlands, thus similarity in the power potential of croplands with grasslands and mixed forests is likely driven by the conversion to agriculture of land with similar climates. Further, one could think of agriculture as a form of solar harvesting where the sun’s energy is stored in the chemical bonds of the plant matter, and agricultural activities already occupy those places on earth most amenable to solar harvesting.
Alternative energy is a set of promising methods of obtaining, transmitting and using energy that are not as widespread as traditional ones, but are of interest because of the advantage of using them with, as a rule, low risk of harming the environment.
Good definition.
Альтернати́вная энерге́тика — совокупность перспективных способов получения, передачи и использования энергии, которые распространены не так широко, как традиционные, однако представляют интерес из-за выгодности их использования при, как правило, низком риске причинения вреда окружающей среде.
The alternative energy sources are many but the rate at which how many peoples and how much quantity of energies are being utilized matters. The clear difference is that the Developing countries are using Wind, Natural gas Biofuels, solar energy and Hydroelectric power in particular and the Developed countries are using Hydrogen Gas, Tidal energy, Hydroelectric energy including Nuclear power. The number of energies produced, transmitted and utilized either renewable energy or non-renewable energy. The demand will determine the type of alternative energy utilization.
Using solar energy can be useful in several ways. First, replacing fossil fuels reduces air and water pollution. Second, replacing fossil fuels means reducing fuel imports, especially oil. Third, by replacing nuclear fuel, we reduce the threat of nuclear weapons proliferation. Finally, solar sources can provide us with some protection, reducing our dependence on an uninterrupted fuel supply. There is no doubt that some damage to the environment can also be caused by the mining of ore, the manufacture of batteries, and the much larger number of wires and transmission lines needed to collect electricity from its many sources. But in General, if you take into account all the costs of environmental protection, they will be very small.
The lack of electricity is especially acute in winter. In this regard, it was decided to build a solar power plant with a capacity of 100 megawatts in the area of Samarkand. Construction of the largest helium power plant in Central Asia has begun on the territory of four districts of the Samarkand region on an area of 404 hectares.
A tender was held to select a contractor, which was won by a Chinese company. To date, the territory of the future power plant is surrounded by a protective fence, access roads have been built, and the construction of the first blocks has begun. In total, the station will have one hundred power units with a total capacity of 100 megawatts.
Over the past few years, no systematic work has been carried out in the Aral sea region. In terms of Herpetology, the area was partially surveyed by the staff Of the Institute of Zoology of the Academy of Sciences of Uzbekistan as part of the INTRAC project on the herpetofauna of the Aral sea region. Currently on the drying up bottom of the Aral sea tree-planting work conducted by forestry Karakalpakstan forestry Department and the international GTZ project in the village of Kostruba the project is the introduction of alternative sources of energy (solar panels), filed an application to GEF for the project on stabilization of moving Sands in the southern Aral sea.
Alternative energy sources are inevitable. The extent to which it will be applied and developed depends, among other things, on the policies of individual countries. Of course, awareness of the need to protect the environment also has a major impact. However, it must be borne in mind that alternative energy sources also have an environmental impact. In my opinion, in the distant future, the main direction of energy development will be the development of low-energy technologies and products.
There is a difference between the alternative and Renewable Energies the first one has impact on the environment like biomass or nuclear energy but the second one has more ecofriendly like solar, wind, Geothermal, Tidal waves, .....
I understand and appreciate Naseer's comment. It is true. I remind us however, that no form of energy has zero impact. Solar energy absorbs and converts energy that would have warmed the earth. Wind absorbs energy from the airstream. I recognize the value of minimizing environmental impact which renewable forms do. I could, and have gone further, but will not here. I have posted some articles on LinkedIn. You may want to check them out.
Thank you for your comments, gentlemen like-minded scientists. Industry and technologies are developing and improving, and the day is not far off when alternative energy will be without side effects for the environment, and we can bring that day closer, so I am waiting for your suggestions and comments.

Thank u so much Mr. Rustam for your interested information about Samarkand PV Solar power plant. Kindly , I would like to ask u about the capacity of feeder or the transmission line which the solar plant connected with it in common point (Penetration Depth).
In connection with the progressing climate change, including the increasingly faster global warming process, energy based on renewable energy sources should be developed. It is necessary to create new innovative pro-ecological technologies to improve the process of pro-ecological energy transformation. It is necessary to improve the technology of waste utilization after used, containing harmful substances, materials that are key elements of some renewable energy sources, such as spent nuclear fuel from nuclear power plants and used batteries used in electric cars.
Photovoltaic panels should be installed primarily on the roofs and walls of buildings, residential buildings, companies, institutions, etc. And if there is not enough space, then also in other places, e.g. in areas of wasteland or degraded by civilization, e.g. heaps of industrial activity. There should be no solar panels installed in green areas.
Yes, the transformation of the energy sector involving the replacement of classic energy based on the burning of minerals for green energy based on the development of renewable energy sources is one of the key, fundamental elements enabling the creation of economic systems operating in accordance with the concept of green economy and circular economy.
