Thank you very much for inviting me to this amazing session. Regarding your question, personally I spent about 11 years as an academic lecturer in both under and postgraduate levels, so I create a rich bank of different types of questions and ideal solutions including practical and theoretical aspects and doing periodic updating to this bank via following many recent internet sites updates and depending on the latest issued books, by the way I have about 200 Gigabyte E-books that covering my field in mechanical engineering plus others specialties and utterly ready to share with you sir and other colleagues, hence I do not need long time for preparing questions for my students exams.
Thank you for your enriching answer. Your strategy, I think is not differ from my and other colleagues strategies. Even with this strategy, the bank of questions needs a time for creation, maintenance and updating. In addition to that, choosing questions and put them in the forma of the exam also takes another time.
Dear Emad, I want to add another important thing especially in our country: it is difficult to preserve the bank for long time in other word you cannot use the same questions many times and this increases the burden to the Iraqi academicians.
I am happy if you share me from your bank what it belongs to my specialty (ear, nose and throat diseases).
Thank you very much dear Dr.Raid for your kind words, Surly I am doing a periodic updating to my so simple information bank, as you know sir, we are all facing a flood(s) of E-facilities including E-books, webinars, bright talk interactions, ..etc. Regarding your request, almost of my E-books are relating to mechanical engineering, civil, chemical, hydraulics, corrosion, mathematics, computer engineering, control engineering, and few E-books about prosthetics and orthotics.
I think that the time required to prepare the exam questions depends on the experience of the scientific and professional teacher and the number of years of experience. For me, I need less than one hour for the short examinations and two hours for the final exams.Noting that the time includes preparing the typical answers to these questions.!!!!
By the time, A questions bank has been established for each course, so the mechanism does not take more than half an hour to prepare questions covering the entire curriculum.
Dear Raid, if a teacher wants to prepare a good and measurable questions that will, in some degree, cover the topic material he has to spent time. And this depends on the topic material's nature.
It depends on the subject and the teacher experience. For me i take 2 to 3 hours as an average to prepare the final exam ( writing questions, writing typical solutions) and finallt print.
For me, it depends and varies. Factors such as the number of course units, the type of question and the technicalities involved has a lot of input to the time I spend. The time I look out for is the time taken to answer the questions (marking scheme). This of course is important to ensure the questions set can be answered by such students within the expected time frame.
From hours to days or months. It depends on the exam format, degree to be evaluated and depth / difficulty / validity of the instruments used.
For example, to evaluate the ethical perspective of the students regarding the ethical behavior of their professors, it was necessary to make a methodological investigation to design, carry out, apply and validate the evaluation instrument, before its final application with hypothesis testing.
I always prepare my exams questions when I am preparing my lessons (scheme of work, lesson plan and the content knowledge). Thus, the time is relative but not time-consuming anyway
I think it depends on the type of questions being prepared and for what level of students. Essay like questions are faster to prepare than 50 or 100 MCQ.
