I have made some carbon samples both CNTs and also activated carbons. How to we get clean SEM images. What is the sample preparation required? What is the sputtering time or cycles to be employed?
Disperse your CNTs sample in suitable solvent. The concentration may be 0.01 to .1 mg/L. Coat the sample dispersion on a thin mica sheet by using drop or spray or spin coating method. dry the sample in a vacuum desiccator. Perform Au-coating on your sample using a coater machine. Sputtered time 30 seconds and 100 to 300 Armstrong thickness of Au-coating on CNTs surface is enough for good visibility in SEM.

Just an addition, to the final part. I have also taken good SEM images on CNTs via using Pt sputtering, of almost the same thicknesses.
