Impact factor (IF) or JCR (Journal Citation Report) gives an idea of the citability of a Journal contents. The high-impact journals display this in their home pages while most of the low-impact journals, it is not.
Even in the JCR, IF of the latter is not found. Decision to submit as authors specially the novice, might be affected by this factor.
Before applying to have a journal added to WoS Core Collection, journals are assessed based on several quality criteria. Journals that pass all quality criteria are included in the Emerging Sources Citation Index (ESCI). The selection process for ESCI is the first step in applying to the Science Citation Index (SCI), Social Science Citation Index (SSCI) and Arts and Humanities Citation Index (AHCI). Journals listed in ESCI are also being evaluated annually for suitability of being transferred to other indexes such as the SCI, and will be moved to the larger indexes once deemed to meet the relevant criteria. Journals indexed in the ESCI will not receive Impact Factors. However, citations from the ESCI will be included in the citation counts for Journal Citation Reports. As such, citations from the ESCI will contribute to the Impact Factors of other journals.
