You raised a very interesting question. Overall, the shear stress in circulation varies from 3-10 (microvasculature) to 30+ (large blood vessels, e.g. aorta) dyn/cm2. If you are trying to mimic physiological shear stress/rate in vitro you would have to look at the specific organ/tissue characteristics and blood vessel size. Keep in mind, that in vitro it is extremely difficult to reach higher "physiological" shear stress levels without loosing cells from the cell culture dish.
Many thanks for your answer... Do you have any publications (paper/book) to suggest that would give me an idea of appropriate shear stresses. I am trying to mimic shear stress in coronary arteries.
