A general answer could be: rumen liquor pH is directed related with feeding, concentrate food diets will decrease pH, even below 6, and forages ones will keep the pH around 7; the use of buffer in diets also could control pH levels.
Rumen degradability of organic matter of feeds will depend on many factors, as its chemical composition -fibre contents- or processing, also the synergic effect among feedstuffs on rumen can improve rumen microbial consortium activity. All of these will define time of digestion process, i. e, bad quality forages can be rumen degraded during more than 48 h.

Reticulum Rumen pH is between 5.5 and 7, this is the place of fermentation. The omasum absorb nutrients and liquids, and the abomasum is used for acid digestion (pH 2-4). Most of the absorption of nutrient is in the doudenum and ileum, whereas there is also digestion and absorption of nutrients in the hindgut (large intestine, the pH here is between 6 and 7). The whole process take about 48 to 72 hours depending on the digestibility of the diet.
