What is the most reliable way to measure telomere length and telomerase activity from cell culture and tissues?
Q-PCR followed by southern blot for telomeres and elisa-based TRAP assay for telomerase
The method depends on the question you have. If you are interested in looking at specific subset of cells, you can perform Flow FISH method to estimate Telomere and in case if the objective is to only to look at the relative telomere length, qPCR should be fine.
ELISA based TRAP assays are good for telomerase
ScienCell recently developed a qPCR-based, non-radioactive kit for measuring telomerase activity. The entire procedure can be done in one day, with hands-on time less than 2 hours.
