To be more precise what is the minimum sample size in Explanatory Qualitative Research, where the population is more than 10 million?
Qualitative sample size depends on reaching the point of saturation; saturation is when researcher no longer gets new perspective (related to phenomenon under investigation) and only the repetition of previous responses.
As you have mentioned the population of more than 10 million, then depends on what are you trying to explore.... what are characteristics of your population,....what are the levels of variation of your population, like ethnicity, race, age, gender, level of education, level of social status, level of health status, level of diversity,......

In qualitative analysis of metal by titrimetric analysis minimum three sample size is enough. But again in the research that depends on the topic.
Use Cochran formula for unknown population. If population is known then use another formula.
The type of data dos not define sample size, so you must apply sampling fromulas,and to decrease sample size you can enlarge expremental error.

It depends on the type of study.
