In an analysis of impurity in pharmaceutical drug, sodium-1decanesulfonate is used as ion pairing agent at a concentration of 1 g per liter which is higher than the solubility of it in water. Is there any recommendations to replace it or decrease its concentration but not affect peak separation.
Usually, RPLC uses a starting organic solvent as well, like Acetonitrile or Methanol at a minimum concentration of ~5%. So it is unlikely that your ion pairing agent is insoluble in a mobile phase particularly since you will be ultrafiltering (minimum 0.22 um) the solution prior to use. I would follow the mongraph.
It depends to the surface area of your column. But as a rule of thumb, ion-pair reagent concentration is between 2-5 mmol/L.. A column with 4.6*250mm dimensions has about 3 gr solid phase wit 330 m2/g surface area.
