Yes and no. If the mobile phase is very organic (like vitamin A's) the esters appear as they are (Vit. A alcohol, then acetate, succinate, palmitate..). But as the mobile phase becomes more aqueous and even acidified the ester linkages are cleaved so only 1 Vitamin A peak will appear. It really depends on your mobile phase and the reactivity of these ester linkages!

No ester like form of Chlorhexidine so the explanation does not apply here.Simple counter ions like chloride and acetate should not have much difference, chlorhexidine exits in solvent with some acidic aqeous part should be mainy in protonated form unless the counter act as an ion pairing reagent e.g. heptane sulphonic acid, TFA,PFPA ,HFBA etc. , then the ion-pair will have different retention time due to the difference of counter ion hydrophobicity.
