For Full Vehicle Simulations (Adams-car), the Damper is usually modeled as non-linear piece-wise Force-velocity curve. This is the only non-linearity modelling. A lot of papers have been published to capture hysteresis and Frequency dependency of the Hysteresis. Is it worth incorporating these complex models in simulations? Which Handling events will cause a severe deviation due to presence of Hysteresis?
A very good question but at present you cannot find the answer to it ! because the literature is silent about it. Myself have tried for it during doctoral studies but remain unsuccessful.
The experimental results of damper testing clearly shows the existence of frequency dependent hysteresis but till date no model is reported to be successful for modelling the hysteresis accurately. Also the available models are parametric and very complex and it becomes difficult and expensive to integrate them in to the simulation models of vehicle suspension.
The effect of damper hysteresis on the performance of vehicle suspension can be evaluated only when the hysteresis would have been modelled accurately and integrated in to the vehicle simulation model.

Hysteresis in the suspension induce mainly ride comfort issues, as they cause noise and vibrations. If handling is all that meters, I would not bother incorporating hysteresis into the model.
