Possible mechanism of dyslipidemia due to Thiazide diuretics
The mechanisms of diuretic-induced dyslipidemia remain unclear, but may be related to worsened insulin sensitivity and/or reflex activation of the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system (RAAS) and sympathetic nervous system in response to volume depletion. This particularly occurs when larger doses of thiazides are used, and is less likely to occur with smaller doses.
