If two stimuli are presented simultaneously, and we find different effect (e.g. mismatch detection) between two different conditions of that display (two simultaneously presented stimuli), could I say that the two stimuli can interact with each other or influence each other? What's the difference?
In my opinion, "interact" might resemble the chemical reactions in which new material is produced.
In dynamical systems, two components interact when they exchange information or energy. If their respective behavior are modified by these coupling interactions, then one can consider "influences", which may be uni- or bi-directional.
If new things are generated from the interaction between the two components, such as mismatch dectection mentioned in my question, what is the relationship? I think "interaction" may be better than "influence", because whether the respective processing of each stimulus is changed is unknown. Is that right? Thank you.
There must be considered the priming of each stimuli on the behaviour to understand whether both are interacting rather than influencing each other. Therefore the point of this relationship could be a choice behavior, but then stimuli could be interacting and influencing elseway, since it seems you are observing only the effect, and minimizing the causal variables that could be related to an interaction relationship of stimuli. If presented stimuli are known to cause similar or different effects on behaviour, therefore it could be postulated whether there is an interaction between them, for example.
