I tend to agree with Ben. But I suggest that for "argue" rather than say unwillingness to change one's mind, argue implies a stronger advocacy for a position than does "debate," in fact, argue includes the idea of presenting your position in a way that the other will agree with you. Debate also includes that, but debate has a wider scope. For example, in a political debate, the debaters are not necessarily trying to get the other debaters to change minds but are interested in getting the audience/voters to agree with them.

None of these are dictionary definitions; they're just my own take on each. I've participated in legal and Tibetan religious debate, so I have some experience with that. Naturally, I've discussed many things over time and have had my share of arguments as well.

Discuss – A mutual exploration of a topic between two or more people (I suppose it will soon include bots as well as people). All people involved in a discussion may have the same point of view, so there may be little or no debate or argument. The goal is to enrich and enhance the knowledge that the various participants bring to the fore.

Debate –  A mutual exploration of a topic either for the purpose of rhetorical exercise, competition, or to achieve greater clarity (e.g. Tibetan debate) between two people, generally (though there can be more (debate team for example), in which there's a specified topic and each person, per a set of formal rules (generally) stakes out a different position or view as it relates to that topic.

The process generally involves making statements supporting one's position or attacking it, asking questions designed to expose weaknesses in the other persons' positions or to show strength in one's own position (by leading the opponent through a series of "yes" answers, for example), answering questions skillfully to support one's own position and/or attack one's opponent's position.

Argument – Basically it involves elements of debate (attacking, defending, asking questions, answering them); however it doesn't follow formal rules, and is based on actual disagreement on some topic. It may involve a trivial matter or an existential one (e.g. the future of a marriage or relationship)

The process generally involves real emotional investment in one's own position and against the other person's position. It's rarely done to arrive at a well reasoned conclusion or as part of a formal competition, or to mutually explore a topic to achieve greater clarity. It's done to satisfy emotional needs or to express deeply held convictions about some topic.

Both words are used to describe conversations in which two (or more) sides take opposing views. As Irene notes, "debate" is normally used to describe conversations about social and political issues, while "argument" is used to describe personal differences. "Senator Smith and Senator Jones had a debate about fiscal policy", but "Senator Smith and Senator Jones had an argument about who should get the bigger office."

A good debate will feed from contradictory well fundamented contributes. It becomes a good discussion, when others join to add fundamental, well documented arguments to take part and counterpart.

This is good. This improves the acquisition of knowledge and promotes the advancement of theories... I love debates and discussions...

A good scientific presentation should offer well fundamented results and lead to a discussion, before presenting conclusions...

On the opposite pole, when there is bias on the arguments, or when there is fundamentalistic counterpart that doesn't care to listen or learn more from sound debate, all parts will loose, and end up with childish inopportune arguing that leads nowhere, except to the quarrel of egocentric minds. (I obviously dislike that!) ...then we loose the scientific aim of discussion.

There are many interesting and true definitions here. I would like to add one truth about it. Meaning is something negotiated between the parts involved. Therefore, these words may have a certain meaning today which may different from what it can be inferred from them tomorrow. What can be called as a discussion by some, may be a sort of argument for others,  in another reality.

Finding "discuss" is leading to win-win, "debate" is leading to win-lose or sometimes no collective decision made whereas "argue" is leading to lose-lose.

Sharing opinions about one topic between some persons is a discuss. A person or persons give their opinions about a topic is a debate. A fire war about topic between the persons is a arguement.

All of them connote oral presentation of one's views. Discuss - to arrive at amicable solution, Debate - for and against to delineate pros and cons, and argue- to win over a situation or a problem!!! 

I have experienced* that discussion, debate and argument happens among friends, where the interpersonal relationships are better managed within the group.

*(My friends are my college mates - 31 years thick)

A discussion normally is centered on a particular topic with assertions made by two or more people that do their best to establish the validity of the topic.By E-mail, I often use "discuss". I've never use "debate" and "argue"

Conversations among a group of people on a specific agenda is known as discussion. Expression of different individuals in favour of or against a topic during a session is known as debate. Strongly defeating a person's view to prove oneself correct is known as argument.

Discuss - when two or more people get together to share and talk about ideas. Listening to each side and giving an opinion, asking questions and sharing thoughts on that topic.

Debate - It is normally a formal forum for discussing certain topics, one person is pro-topic and the other is con-topic. They each give a lecture supporting their side of the issue. Usually they do not address the opposing team directly.  

Argument - Is most common associated with anger driven expression of opinion without care of how it is received and unwillingness to hear the opinions of others. However, in a court of law, it is used for each opposing side to express their side of the issue and sway the voters/jurors/judge opinion of the matter in their favor.

In a discussion, you can talk about anything with much peace of mind. In a debate, you are trying to prove yourself better than your opponent or simply winning over him, while in arguments, you are trying to prove him/her wrong and yourself right. In general, discussion is more friendly, debate is less friendly and arguments are sometimes very heated.

Discuss is one dimensional ,we sit together and talk about the topic to get the opinion of all the participants to get the conclusion .Debate is two dimensional , we choose a topic and try to get the optimum results from all the debate members . Argument is three dimensional , we start to prove that what I am saying is the best answer of this topic .

Discussion - also implies the exploration of various pros/cons, advantages/disadvantages something more akin to brainstorming to discover possibilities.

Debate - implies that the interlocutors have taken positions, but from a more emotionally detached way - perhaps even as an intellectual exercise in order to test out various claims and perhaps to then source a variety of evidence for those claims in order to persuade a specified audience, which may require specific appeals. And this can follow specified public formats.

Arguments can be synonymous with claims and their corresponding evidence, or the verb argue can imply that the interlocutor is debating from his/her personal, emotionally entrenched position. Arguing can also imply that the interlocutor has crossed the line from attacking the opponent's argument to attacking the arguer and thus has left the realm of civil discourse that is the province of debate.

Most of the times, when an argument transpires, it creates an ugly perception where there's a misunderstanding of subject matter and it could be in the formal and informal context. In regards to a debate, it is carried out in a formal context and the better premise of points reign supreme. A discussion can involve negotiation skills as to logically settle the dispute.

Your question comes to my mind when I say the following:

"I do not want to argue with you at all, and there is no point in debating it as for as I am concerned, nevertheless I wish we could discuss it as the question sounds interesting."

Regards all the opinion leaders, try to avoid arguing the question, and the written forum  is difficult to debate, therefore, lets discuss it, if you please.

Debating is for proving  view point through logical and rational expressions of different members.

Discussion is any serious communication in a group of two or above about knowledge exchange that is mutually recognized by all participants as truth.

Debate stage begins when some discussed facts, interpretations, theories, or beliefs, etc., do not reach the level of truth in view of one or more of a debate participants.

Arguing is a stage, when the debate about truth is replaced by expressing individual positions and possibly interests irrespective to the arguments from another side of the table.  

At times we engage in all 3 stages interwoven prior to deriving at a conclusion or mutual settlement.

Discussion is simply a friendly exchange of ideas on simple or large issues for no effects or outcomes, and all the discussants might or might not be be on the same line of the discussion.  Debate  is a procedural layout of reasons as to why the side of the case the debater stands for is valid against the other side(s) with the auspices of third party to see who brings more convincing reasons. Argument is a face to face or one to one debate of presenting reasons and justifications as to why something is true or not true or undecidable/contingent for that matter, to win over the other on the spot. Therefore the differences depend  on levels of intensity, reasons and outcomes, number of parties involved and time.

See now-a-days you get all or many dictionaries or meaning of a word if you type that in Google I believe. Of course Mother tongue you may have a bit of thorough knowledge. I suggest there are good vocabulary books to improve your word power in English. You better read or make a hobby to read a page per day. Norman Lewis books you can buy or you get some free digital editions too if you search online.

Thanks for the valid question. I would like to remind   a famous quote, Intellectuals debate where as idiots argue.

Hence, in my view point, the difference of the three terms, Discussion is like sharing of views, ideas and opinions among the group of people. The view points may change over a period of discussion.

The term Debate indicates the Point to emphasize or support or deliberately mentioned. There is a chance of changing opinion or view point in discussion but not in debate.

Come to the word of Argue, it denotes the negative notion of opinion on the person who blindly emphasizes a particular point which may not be acceptable unanimously.

In this argument also there is no chance of changing opinion of particular topic.
